Ayeee, I haven't played the original or that sad 3D version they made, but I've been playing 2kki on Twitch.
It's honestly hard keeping up with it, they update it so much. The most recent version I've played is 0.107e.
If you're going to get the original, don't buy it on Steam, it's missing some stuff if I remember correctly.
Yume Nikki recently turned 15 so i'm bumping this old thread
As one can tell from my avatar and nickname, i love YN. It's easily one of the games that has affected / inspired me the most. I've played a lot of the fangames too, they are great in their own right. My favourites are (of course) .flow, Debris, Me, Yume Graffiti, NostAlgic and Somnium.
I think these games are aquired taste, so i'm glad to see some people here that plays them
yume nikki is one of my fave games, ive played a little bit of 2kki but not enough to see if its better or not. it looks like it and id like to play .flow too but with those 2 ive pretty much spoiled myself by watching youtube vids of them
I went through a huuuuge .flow phase, I love the overall aesthetic and tone of that game. I'm planning on re-playing the original Yume Nikki soon, I've played it once before but I went a little too walkthrough-reliant and didn't spend enough time just relaxing and enjoying the atmosphere.
I think a very important part to Yume Nikki-style games is the sound design. From what I've seen, not many fan games do it right and it just ends up sounding repetitive, instead of creating an atmosphere. I think that .flow has the best sound design of any Yume Nikki-style game, including Yume Nikki.
I've played YN , YN 3D version, and YN fangames like .flow, Someday, Yume 2kki, Me, etc.
This kind of game genre is always my favourite. I even have myself an unfinished YN fangame: "World of Oddity"
Aaaa count me in! I love Yume Nikki and creepy games or stuff in general.
YN soundstrack is incredible, I had a period when I couldn't stop but reading game's interpretations. Also the manga was pretty cute.
