So I was just trying to join this island for a HUGE giveaway with hundreds (not exaggerating) of nmt, bells, pearls, star fragments, etc. which were all hacked. There was about 50 people watching and he was streaming for 8 hours. In the description, he said "please let everyone have a chance". That was not the case. People were joining multiple times, not following the time limit, and some people in the chat were yelling and calling people out who were saying that they had been waiting for 3 hours. The person also used hacks to make the destination full for people trying to get in, but it wasn't full. I just wanted some stuff, that was the purpose of the stream, right? Anyways, people were also disconnecting and ruining it for people who finally got in. The streamer (who I respect completely for doing the giveaway and trying to make it fair) said that the "crashers" would be banned. And then then the sessions were for donors only. I know I sound like a Karen but seriously.

Here's a general rule for Youtube: If something says "giveaway" it's often just a scam to get kids to watch their video (if it tells you to like and subscribe in order to enter it's definitely a scam because a lot of accounts have their likes/subscriptions set to private). Fake giveaways are illegal but I guess the more sketchy creators don't care. Though the giveaway you entered sounds legitimate, I just felt like it should be stated. What you had to put up with still sounds annoying.

youtubes and youtube giveaways are always fake as hell. A lot of youtubers even just pick their friends as the winners in advance.

Also ACNH internet sucks and slow, so it was definitely a bad idea to have multiple people at the same time on the island.

If you really want to go to a island with tons of NMTs, gold, items, whatever, it might just be best to pay to go to one of those hacked islands (if you’re comfortable with going outside the ToS)

I'm so sorry that you had to deal with a bunch of greedy players with no respect for others. It takes a few bad apples to ruin it for everyone. It really is annoying when people do not follow rules and disregard them thinking they are better than others. I guess in order to keep the amount of people at bay, he figured that donating was the only option. A shame really.

Sadly, that is the chaotic nature of trying to give away a bunch of free things to a mass majority of people and at a rate of hundreds of players all at once trying to join one game.

Personally? The amazing TBT players on this site are just so kind and generous that you'd have an easier time getting something from here if you wanted. I have never been so graced by the many players here with their kind hearts offering free items. I am so thankful in all truth and seeing that kindness is something you rarley see and gives me hope for humanity.

Too bad you can't kick and block people from your island. But that's what happens when you do a giveaway on YouTube, on Twitch f.e. you could at the very least message viewers and send people your Dodo code one person at a time. Or just use turnip.exchange and show the link.

I dont participate in giveaways for this exact reason. I have nothing against the creators, and I love that they try and do something nice. But. People ruin it with stuff like that, and I feel like that kinda stuff increased with NH. Some people just like to ruin things for people :(

If they had giveaways where the host player had multiple islands and that's why they had all these material and items to giveaway I would join but with hacked items I wouldn't I would always be worried something would happen to my island :( It is lovely to hear though creators helping out others :P

Dude that’s the way I feel about Twitter giveaways, I entered like 30 of them for the Mermaid Series of DIYs and they all use randomizer program sites instead of actually taking the time to pick the winners themselves, it just feels lazy to me, if you’re hosting a giveaway, you should be picking the winners, not some Artificial Intelligence

youtube giveaways are just fake and obnoxious. They're just doing it for to get their channels out there and people dont even win anything at all. Same thing goes for social media giveaways like omgg thank you so much for xxx followers you guys mean so much to me so imma host a giveaway like ugh, stop the fake act.

That is how you do a raffle giveaway though. If you pick the winner yourself, it becomes a contest. Which takes more effort on their part and it makes sure you get people complaining about it being unfair, that you are biased/partial, that their entry was good and your contest is bad and that you therefore suck as a person (this is Twitter, after all). I can see why people wouldn't want to go through all that.

Assigning a random winner gives everyone equal chances. It's the same as writing every name down on a piece of paper and blindly drawing one from the pile. And when people start complaining about not winning, you can simply say 'you weren't the lucky one' instead of trying to explain why you didn't pick them.

Don't worry, artificial intelligence is not used to pick a random number. The computer does not hate you. :)

"Don't forget to follow and subscribe for more giveaways because I love you!"

Yeah, I hate them too. Especially for the larger giveaways. If you're asking everyone to share, retweet, or visit your sponsor, or buy your merchandise you're in it for the advertising money and not because you care. Why even pretend?

I feel like a lot of Youtube giveaways are done for channel content more than actually giving stuff away. Like other commenters have said, it all seems fake and exhausting and like a waste of time. This forum is super useful in getting items and entering giveaways.
