Your Fictional crush

No, it's just I've never met a guy who's had one, and I feel like girls read more than guys do. But it's probably just that they read much different literature.

uhhhhh Hermione Granger.... smart, independent, however she was an annoying prick in the first two books...
Anime characters weird me out, i would never have a crush on them... I understand going through some bad stuff but that seems too fantasized, and I relate more to american literature characters

uhhhh like most anime isn't relatable... the clothes, hair, atmosphere, situations... its mostly highly fantasized, exaggerated. I don't connect to that at all nor can relate or get anything out of it... so I would never have a crush on anyone/thing from it, no hate if you do, its just not my thing

You know the one guy in Percy Jackson who was the son of Nemesis and he died really unimportantly? Ethan Nakamura. Yea.. I rly liked him

Recently really liked the protag from Girl, Interrupted. All of the characters in that one actually. But that's a memoir

Looking back at the characters I crush on I seem to rlly like the ones who are misanthropic or hate the world lmao..

what does this say about me...

I've always had a crush on Tony Stark. So much that my husband feels threatened by it.

Lolz... Just saying, thank god for Robert Downey Jr. cause that just made everything so much better for me :D

Oh, okay. Yeah, anime is pretty overdramatic, I guess. Don't worry. You won't see any hate from me. I've been crushing on mutated turtles since I was 16, so I try to avoid judgement.

FYI before anyone starts judging me on this: People with borderline personalities -- IE me -- are able to feel emotions 10x stronger and longer than ordinary people. I have grudges I've been holding since I was 8.

In middle school, I had a crush on a giant cartoony blue hedgehog with noodly arms and legs. It has toned down a lot since then

*war flashbacks*

*goes in to have fun*
*finds a not so pleasant debate*
...can we get another thread?

Gee whiz, this is one heck of a thread. How anyone could just come in a topic meant for people to embrace and discuss their fictional crushes and just call them "creepy and weird" is well beyond me. I just don't understand this mentality either, to be completely and totally honest. Really! A LOOOOT of people find comfort in fictional media. The characters are there to relate too (in most cases)! Maybe they possess personality traits we have come to adore through media we take in. MAYBE it is a looks thing, and if it is...So what? Who's it hurting? No one! They're not real! Why should it bother or weird anyone out if someone's indulging themselves in an imaginary relationship with a cartoon character? You don't know how much it can help to just...Have something to think about! Having something so, so positive to linger on like a fictional crush is great! Especially if you're like me and are CONSTANTLY plagued by negative thoughts if there's nothing to divert my attention to (which is always, always cartoon characters!)

So yeah, it's definitely rude to just pop in a place like this and leave a comment which will undoubtedly leave people feeling weird for having a fictional crush. The internet has a stigma against people openly discussing this kind of thing. Crushing on a "weird" cartoon characters tends to make you into a laughing stock, and (typically) young women are the target of this behavior. If you think something's odd, just overlook it. This isn't your place! So many of us are already aware it's a thing that's weird, and probably have been picked on for it. I know I have! I've stumbled across people making fun of me and have had people tell me they just follow me for laughs because they find my crushes "hilarious."

So can we leave the negative commentary behind?
Please refrain from saying anything that could make people feel more ashamed of something they probably can't mention to most people around them without the fear of being laughed at. Fictional media is put out there for people to enjoy! Who cares if someone enjoys it a little differently by attaching themselves to a particular character? So long as someone doesn't let their character obsession hinder their ability to function (because they're too caught up in their fantasy) or they aren't attacking anyone for liking the same character, then it's all good.

It's pretty healthy to project your obsessive energy on something that has no feelings, if you ask me. I always found that to be something that makes crushes on real people weird (for me.) I'd be afraid of objectifying and invalidating this real person's emotions, so I stay far, far away from live action stuff...

BUT
yeah!

Anyways, back to the topic:

Mr. Frond from Bob's Burgers

my fictional crushes change so often lol
my current Fictional crush is on Zamielmon from Digimon Xros Wars c':
even though he's Trash

Let's try to be a little nicer to one another. If you disagree with something then please politely keep your opinions to yourself and move on. This isn't a topic worth being rude about or getting worked up over.

I wouldn't say crushes on book characters are particularly common, I mean they usually have a description of their appearance, but I guess you can appreciate the personality more when you don't have illustrations. I just don't really see that with cartoons/video games.

Crushes on book characters are incredibly common, but it's not as easy to show. It can't exactly be broadcasted in the same way that fans of other media can share their love of a character - e.g. they can't spam every form of social media they use with pictures, .gifs, etc.

I'd lean towards the latter. Offline I personally know far more guys than girls who are avid readers; online I find it's the reverse. I think that's to do with searching based on my own interests online though.

In response to OP:

If you'd asked me this ten years ago I could have given you a long list. Now I can't really think of any. I guess I get more fangirl-y about pairings than individual fictional characters.

DANG, wow. this was an unexpected flame war. i just wanted some buds to relate with, and now an admin on this post? sorry guys, but if don't like, don't read. i respect your opinion, but there was no need for a flame war. if i come off as rude, i apologize. but why can't we get along?
