Your Design Pet Peeves

the fact that you can't place inclines or bridges in "half" blocks like you can with furniture. it'll bug my symmetry loving-self to no end that inclines/bridges will never match up perfectly with any building in the game, especially the museum ; o ;

also, not being able to place trees touching rivers and removing certain portions of the cliffs because otherwise it'll collapse?? i get trying to keep the realism aspect in the game but it really messes with potential design ideas

I really hate that some items end up with a weird gap when you try to push them up to the edge of a fence. It's also super annoying that I can't rotate something on a table outside.

I have a few with path making.
1) Can't put paths or designs directly against houses. So if you surround a house with dirt path, there's still a line of grass around it.

2) Related to 1, but path types can't be pressed against each other, or the city square.

3) There are convex curves to round off the outside of turns, but no concave to smoothe the inside of turns.

4) No signs you can press a to read like the home signs, or the hot item sign.

I miss the things that you can have in HHD that you can't have in this game. You can't have rugs outside, light fixtures and other ceiling furniture items, you can't customize your curtains/window shades, and we definitely have a lot less house exterior options. I had expected pretty much all of the customization that HHD added to be put in NH, but it hasn't happened. :(

I wish we could have bridges over land so we can have canyons. Why are bridges forced to be over water?

Also, I really wish we could have multi-story flat, sheer cliff faces. But instead they make land terraforming essentially work like cake layers, where you need at least 1 block all around. I know WHY they do it this way, because of they way they implemented terraforming. But I still wish it didn't work that way.

It'd also be nice if we could rotate fence pieces, like we can for furniture outside.

I dislike how there isn't any walking sounds if you decide to use custom paths instead of the built in ones. Definitely made me decide not to use custom paths as my main option.

items that are 1.5 / 2.5 / etc length!!!
they are SO hard to place, especially outside. They don't line up with paths, flower patterns or anything! This is awful especially since I'm going for symmetry on my island :(

Yeah, and it would allow 2 layer waterfalls.

I dislike how the nook paths are smaller than the custom paths and leave a space of grass between the tile and my walls.
We shouldn't be able to kick up customs paths outside of the terraforming mode. You try to pick up something and you end up kicking away the tile.

Bringing my old thread back from the dead! Because I didn't want to make a new one.

Chairs that can't be sat on and fun items that are out of reach and you can't touch.

I make it a hard rule that all chairs and interactable objects can be accessed.

Absolutely no chairs that can't be sat on and no fun items you can't touch (snapping turtle, radios, etc.). This coupled with my "no scoot step" rule has me feeling quite good about my house.

Oh wow, never knew that about indoor plants!! I'll have to experiment, that's a neat element to work with!!!

I love the ceiling fan idea as well.

Something just popped into my head.. Sorry I am doing this a lot hahahaha. I looked outside at my patio and saw the string lights, and I now wish these were in the game as well!!!!!! I mean just think how cute you could design stuff with these, both indoors and outdoors!!! (I also secretly would be open to a star fragment DIY version)

(not my image, ripped off of google. If my patio looked like this I would never be inside)
OMG yes! I want string lights and to be able to put lights/lanterns in trees!

omg where has this thread been, i need it!!

it really bothers me when a chair isn't accessible but for some of the bigger desks/chairs (ie den desk) it's impossible to use without leaving a space in between the desk and chair and then it takes up sooo much space it drives me crazy.

also really, really not a fan of 'indoor' furniture outdoors. i love the idea of an outdoor library but then i just think about how impractical it is IRL and it ruins the fun in-game for me lmao. and don't even get me started when it rains outside and all your bookshelves are wet..

I haven't gotten to do anything on my island as I decorated my house first but this is something that I've also kept in my mind.

I neeeed practicality on my island!

I really wish you were able to put rugs outside. There's been more than a few times where I've looked at an area of my island and thought, 'A rug would look great here!' But sadly I can't put a rug down in any of those places.

As well as that, I wish you could put wall items outside too. I know there aren't really any walls you can put them on, but maybe putting them on cliffs would look good? Idk.

Also, why are there no ceiling items in NH? Seems strange to me, since there were ceiling items in HHD and (I think) NL.

I felt this way about certain furniture outside but realized that I was limiting myself too much and had to compromise when I really shouldn’t have to.

I never noticed this one until seeing all the wedding photos...

Instruments without proper seating.

I've seen plenty of pianos with piano benches, but not a single harp or cello with a chair or stool. These instruments are almost impossible to play standing, so please give them something to sit on. A stand wouldn't hurt, either.

The violin and sax can be played standing, but I never see anyone put those in the wedding photos.

I initially tried to decorate a part of my house with the Harp and had this realization when looking up google images as I wanted it facing an accurate direction.

Definitely indoor furniture outdoors. Trying to make rooms out of cliffs and the like also just really doesn't work for me. I have an imagination but not enough of one to suspend for this. I suppose I've been playing The Sims for so long, where you can build rooms/buildings. It's a shame how limited we are in Animal Crossing, but that's just the way things are.

yikes i'm definitely an offender of this one. i thought i was slick with a piano bench. totally haven't seen a harp played before and somehow pretended the cello was a bass that didn't need a chair lol.

not being able to place items on the middle of tables is the bane of my existence. currently raymond's yard has a table with two board games on it because that looks marginally less stupid than the board only being accessible from one player's side 😬

OH and not being able to place rugs outside. and having to dig flowers out. it's so annoying especially since flowers reproduce so easily in this game!

that you can't group select items then copy that exact set of items when designing something on Harv's island. Looking at you Wedding Season event reception area where I wanna copy the table w/ the 4 chairs surrounding 3 times just at once.

That we can't put rugs outside. I get placing them would be annoying af without the HHD view but omfg. The rooms in the houses are small now. we don't have room for all the rugs!!!

Not being able to put a path (even a half or rounded path) down where there is a diagonal design terraform. Example is diagonal cliffs or diagonal rivers. There is this place on my beach it has annoying tf out of me because I don't like how the pattern abruptly ends on a spot because the beach is just diagonal enough to not be able to put a pattern down. But if I put a plant to try and hide that I either can't walk around or I have to do the scoot. >.>
