Your Design Pet Peeves

I hate the little scooting as well!
I also don’t like 1 tile paths.

Also I don’t like the hops. I rather not have to hop to places. Having the inclines and bridges is better for me :)

Why can't I put buildings on top of paths. Why does there have to be grass between the path and the building.

No rugs and wall items outside.

Nowhere near enough inclines. Can I trade bridges for inclines please I don't need eight whole bridges but I do need to be able to walk up my cliffs

And for things I have control over, I do not like paths that are only one space wide. That's way too cramped for me.

Even if you have the terraforming app, the custom designs work pretty much exactly the same as if you put them down regularly. I don't really see the point of using it if the paths just go away. Also, I just want to move my museum half a space so it can be aligned with the stairs I have :/

Not a fan of the scooting either!

A big pet peeve of mine in ACNH is QR code pathways, honestly. They all have the same weird sound, and if they don't have at least 1 transparent pixel + on top of an in-game path, then they have that ugly, hard, unnatural edge. I only use an asphalt design I made for my playground, and mostly transparent stone QR codes for one section of my island, which alternates with the in-game cobblestone path.

While this might make the ladder tool obsolete, I wish there was an option to build in a ladder (like the bridges) onto cliffs. I have some areas where an incline would be too chunky and a 1x3? ladder would work well.

They could be different variations, like wooden, steel, rope or skulls flowers.

Posted this on the ACNH Rant Thread but will post again here.

No undo option for waterscaping. I feel as if with paths and general landscaping you can easily tell where you’ve gone wrong and fix it fairly easily. But with waterscaping, once you’ve messed around with a particular area, it’s hard to come back from it. At least that’s what I’ve found. Maybe it helps having a good eye or I just haven’t gotten used to the overall technique yet.

Speaking of custom paths...

I have concluded from different conversations here that villagers are more likely to walk on the premade natural paths instead of the custom made paths.

While I would love to change the colorings of the natural paths I'm gonna probably base my design decisions around it because of that aspect.

I've seen a lot of people overlay custom paths on top of the Nook Construction app paths... maybe that would work for you, if I understood your dilemma correctly :)

i wish we could have bridges connecting two cliffs!!! ugh, it would be SO gorgeous and i'd feel so much better about the 8 incline and 8 bridge limit.. also, the ability to cover up the sides of cliffs. they look awful if you have a straight wall of cliffs...

my main ones are all related to paths: how we can't put paths under buildings, how theres a strip of grass between two different path styles placed next to each other, and my biggest one: how the same button is used to pick up an item or erase a path on the ground. the number of times I've tried to pick up something on a path and wiped a patch of the path clear in the process hurts me 😔 especially the fact that it can be done when people are over on your island! makes touch trading a bit embarrassing sometimes

I hate that there aren't anymore lighting colours for the house. In New Leaf, you can change the colour that the light in the house looks like depending on what lights you use in the main room. So you can have the lights look purple, green, pink, etc. But now they are all just whitish yellow light :( I wanted purple for my spooky mansion.

Terraforming could be more precise and smoother, like one that shows you the tiles. It's nerve wrecking sometimes and takes the fun out of it.
More slots for custom paths would add more variety, but also yes, rugs outside! I made a cherry blossom viewing garden and just a nice rug under the picnick set would have been nice. I know a lot of people made custom.tiles for rugs, but again, I don't have more space for them.

If they allowed this in a future update id be so happy!

Tried quoting Hoshi’s post but it wouldn’t let me.
Totally agree with the need for a grid/tiles while terraforming. No idea why they didn’t do it that way to be totally honest. Squares always appear when you place a house so why not with terraforming, right?

Biggest gripe is rugs and lack of design space. I rug takes 9 spaces and the basketball court I made the other day takes 16... I've got pretty much no more design spots left

My personal pet peeve is different colored furniture. I gotten most of my stuff refurbished from redd or balloons. I gave up on having color astheic, which to be fair has brought a ton of colorful furniture variety across the island. It was very time consuming and discouraging to trade for NMT

Decorating outside is a real pain tbh, sometimes you just can't put the items on the table in the right position, I'd like it if we can predesign it inside our homes then we can able to put the thing we want the same way we placed it inside or something but idk lol

I hate how you can't just pick up flowers directly like previous games. Using the shovel makes the process so much more tedious when I need to clear out an area to do something.

THIS IS THE BIGGEST MOOD. I hate that. It's time-consuming and then it breaks my shovel. It frustrates me.

I hate that even if you use the construction app to lay down a custom path, you can skill kick it up. Like, why even add that feature to the construction app if it's no different than opening my design app and flopping down a pattern that way? Does it cost nook miles to have the option to use custom paths in the construction app? I can't really remember if it does. But if it does, why? What's the point? I can still kick up my custom paths!!

We can move items half blocks, but rotating them is still the same as before. Wish there was more in between, the teddy bears always look oddly positioned.

edit: rephrased because I don't know if rotating is determined in 'blocks' but u get the point haha
Yet we can move villagers 45 degrees at a time when arranging things at Harv's island! I also wish we were able to turn things diagonally. The corners of my rooms would get much more interesting.

Waterfalls with no source. Just looks weird. Grass between the paths annoys me too. It’s also annoying that I can’t put paths under books cranny like I can with houses and the tailor shop and museum. And a grid system for terraforming would also be nice.
