I wonder if this is another function of eating fruits like relocating the trees


If you eat fruit it chops down, if you don't eat you just get resources for cutting.

I highly doubt if we needed to harvest mass amounts of wood and our trees have all been chopped down that we'd literally have to wait days after planting new ones for them to regrow to re-chop

That's the annoying thing about crafting games

Same thoughts! I really think the Animal Crossing community is going kind of nuts. Just because a feature that has been in every single game of the series wasn't explicitly shown in ACNH trailers yet (why would they even waste time to show it?), doesn't mean you should be concerned that it won't make it to the new game. Of course you will be able to cut down trees.

That is a Stone Stool, which is an item they showed which you can craft using 3 stone. I do not remember if the September direct or the E3 gameplay showed the screen where you could craft it.

It was never not confirmed. The people in the trailers simply never hit the trees enough times. They always stopped short of cutting it down obviously.
