You used to be able to catch jellyfish in the original Animal Crossing, too. One of only five ocean fish in the American release, but they added a few more in the Japanese remake.

IRL, urine is used to neutralize Jellyfish stings.

When I visited Florida a long time ago, I got stung by a Jellyfish, and the lifeguard just sprayed my leg with some kind of solution.
