Homeschooling does not properly prepare students for life outside schooling because it does not make them interact with peers in an academic or social setting.

Happy?
Nope.

Pray tell... what are homeschooling groups for? FYI, I belong to one and they meet up pretty often. They're not really academic, though, but I think your main point is the tired stereotype that homeschoolers don't get enough social interaction.

Which is why homeschool groups exist in the first place, right?
Well since we're on the topic of stereotypes maybe i'll point out that you're really not being any better claiming "Public schools teach you less".

How many people are in your homeschool group?
Umm... 20-ish? Not all of them make it to every activity, so it's hard to give an exact number.
Yeah, high schools have a minimum of 1200 kids or so.

Yeah, you act as though I'd know all of them if I went to public school.

Don't tell me crap about diversity and how I'll learn to respect other cultures better, that's overused. I know enough about other cultures without having to see them every day.

Also, the internet has changed homeschooling. For example... homeschoolers are talking with other people right here, lol

Heck, if not for the internet, I wouldn't even BE homeschooling. I belong to an internet-based, accredited homeschool program, so...

OK, I'm not arguing that... but since when is that a bad thing?

Public schoolers spend 6 or so hours in the classroom. Six. Freaking. Hours. Every. Day. They socialize with others, sure, but what about family values? Don't you ever wonder why so many public schoolers do drugs, have incessant sex, etc?

I'm not saying ALL of them do. That'd be stereotypical. I'm saying a lot of them do, and that's an undeniable fact. So... why do they do it?

It's because parents aren't there to intervene. They don't get the family values instilled in them from an early age. Feel free to say I'm being a hypocrite by perpetuating stereotypes, but before you do that, try to explain why so many public schoolers are... doing what they're doing.
I hate to get into this but your family is well off right?

To be honest to be homeschooled you need to be in a family that can A. afford a teacher, or B. afford the time to teach your own kids. If you are from a well off family you are a lot less likely to abuse substances or do a lot of other bad things. Public schooled kids don't abuse stuff more because they went to public school, it is more often because they had a rough life. Yes their parents not being around to intervene probably has something to do with it, but it isn't just while they are at school, they are gone a lot of the time when they are home, y? Because both parents need to work long hours to support their families, or they could be a single parent and have to do a ton on their own.

I hate to bring class into it but that is exactly what it is. The difference between public and private school, the difference between what is free and what isn't, the difference between living a comfortable life verses a miserable one. That is why kids do bad things, they are miserable and at least doing drugs lets them feel something.

Clearly this isn't everyone but some people develop a self destructive way of coping with life, sad but true, and this behavior is more likely to happen in a malnurished environment.

"Well-off"? Well, yes, we're not poor...

If we're going to get into technicalities, sure... we pay $600 a year for my homeschooling. This includes all the books, graders, teachers, etc etc etc...

And woah, I'm not saying it's the kid's fault. Far from it. I'm just saying that most of the time, doing drugs and all that is the typical scenario. And, you know, not only miserable and poor kids do drugs. Sometimes, rich snobs are the ones that do things like that.

The difference is parenting, and I'm afraid that with public school, there just isn't the same amount of time or opportunity to parent. The kid's in school most of the time, and he/she doesn't get to spend a lot of time at home in a good environment. You understand where I'm going with this.

Okay, I agree with the "anti-homeschoolers". They get no where near as much social time as a public school student. Bul, about your family comment. You can still have a good family and go to a public school. You may have a little group of 20 kids, but how many school sports do you play? How many school activities are you in? How many school friends do you talk to? How do you know that you know alot about diversity, there's 2 people of the same ethnicity in your school.

Whatever happened to welcoming UB?

:P

Anyway SN you can't say that about everyone. It's up to the student to go out and socialize if they're home schooled. Same things goes with all the rest. You can't assume that's the case. And there are more things out there than just school sports. It's called community sports. And you don't need to go to school to have friends. It's called, go outside.

For the sake of UB... STILL ALIVE.

<small><small>This was a triumph.
I'm making a note here: HUGE SUCCESS.
It's hard to overstate my satisfaction.
Aperture Science
We do what we must
because we can.
For the good of all of us.
Except the ones who are dead.
But there's no sense crying over every mistake.
You just keep on trying till you run out of cake.
And the Science gets done.
And you make a neat gun.
For the people who are still alive.
I'm not even angry.
I'm being so sincere right now.
Even though you broke my heart.
And killed me.
And tore me to pieces.
And threw every piece into a fire.
As they burned it hurt because I was so happy for you!
Now these points of data make a beautiful line.
And we're out of beta.
We're releasing on time.
So I'm GLaD. I got burned.
Think of all the things we learned
for the people who are still alive.
Go ahead and leave me.
I think I prefer to stay inside.
Maybe you'll find someone else to help you.
Maybe Black Mesa
THAT WAS A JOKE.
HAHA. FAT CHANCE.
Anyway, this cake is great.
It's so delicious and moist.
Look at me still talking
when there's Science to do.
When I look out there, it makes me GLaD I'm not you.
I've experiments to run.
There is research to be done.
On the people who are still alive.
And believe me I am still alive.
I'm doing Science and I'm still alive.
I feel FANTASTIC and I'm still alive.
While you're dying I'll be still alive.
And when you're dead I will be still alive.
STILL ALIVE
