Hi all I have a question about transferring my ACNL (physical copy) over. I currently have a 3DS but will be getting a Pokemon XY edition 3DSXL (yaaay~), and want to move my game to it. So far I have read on the forum anything from corruptions to copying and re-saving your game each time you're done playing. So can anyone give a little advice that's a bit more clear?

Should I copy all the files from the SD card to my PC then, format the new SD card, and move the files over to the new SD card for the XL?
Or am I missing something that could save me possible tears? I really don't want to lose my town.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I've done a transfer before c:

When you get your XL go to System Settings - other settings = System Transfer.

Do the same to your 3DS. On the 3DS touchscreen hit " Send to 3DS Xl" On the XL hit " Recive from 3DS"

Follow the steps then swap the SD card around? i cant remeber oops

If you have the physical copy, then you have nothihng to worry about. A system Transfer (I followed the instructions on the Nintendo website) transfers everything to your new 3DS system, including all eShop details, friend code, streetpasses etc. It also enables you to use your current SD card in the new system too, once finished, pop your SD card into your nice new system and you can pick up where you left off. However, if you want to upgrade your SD card, format the new card, put it in a 3DS and switch it on to initialise the card, copy all the files from one card to the other and this transfers game info (I upgraded from a 4gb to a 16gb SD) and delete the folder created when you first switched on, it's the one with very low folder size!

If you had the digital copy, it's exactly the same except you would have to download the game again but because everything transfers, it'll pick up where it left off too! I had no problems when I transferred from my silver XL to my AC XL.

TL,DR: Read it hahaha!!

Also, you can save all your pictures on your sd card to your system (hit the data management button and hit the one that says "sd -> system" and it transfers your photos to the system, then you don't have to worry about backing them up to the computer.
I did that with my last transfer and I got to keep all my photos, in the new console, you then just hit "system -> Sd card" on the same menu c:

That can all be found inside the 3ds camera app when you go to look at the picture

Oooh, I didn't know this! Mine all transferred anyway, but I'd have done this as a backup had I known!

This all sounds really simple, so I feel a lot better. Thank you to everyone who replied, it's really helpful.
