Anyone with a WiiU, notice the yellow light coming on a lot more now? Standby? Off power updates? Although either it's a weird E3 thing or just since the start menu update happened, OR because I put a USB HDD in the back, I notice it will be on a lot more now. I woke up this morning and it was on for hours until I turned on the system to play a game. I try and look it up and anywhere and everywhere just says "yellow is standby like the wii" but doesn't refer to what's happening. Since the Wii's standby isn't like the WiiU standby at all. I'm pretty sure you can't even make your WiiU go into standby like the Wii. Lol it's probably meaningless, but I'm curious to know what it's doing when it's asleep.

Wii U's yellow light usually goes on every time you shut the system off and after a set period of inactivity, in which the latter can be configured via System Settings. It indicates that it's preparing your Quick Start Menu, downloading apps/games whether you wanted them or not, search for firmware updates and fetch some SpotPass content.
Wii U is like Wii on that regards, except you get the know when it attempts to connect to Internet so you don't plug the system out at the expense of corrupting certain datas.

The Quick Start Menu refresh totally crossed my mind, as well as everything else you said. I guess it just seemed funny it's been doing it so often. But it's been justified by many things. Guess it was just a coincidence. It's only been this week that it's been like Heyo Yellow Light! If it continues showing yellow more than red for longer periods of time I'll be suspicious. But now that I created this thread it's been red haha

I've never gotten orange or even heard of it. I tried to Google it and it appears either you're crazy or it IS a background download light. Are you using an NA WiiU? Or another region? I've never heard of another color other than Red & Yellow. Although once my friend got a white flash on his 3DS and we couldn't find out why, never could make it do it again, and we looked it up and only like 2 pages had any mention of a white 3ds flash and they didn't know either. Freaky.

Oops I guess maybe I just found out lol White on 3DS is memory full or your SD card is bricked...

I am indeed using a North American (NTSC) Wii U. Odd that I have a different light on my Wii U. (Maybe my Wii U is special? ;) )
