Would villagers be less likely to move out if...

They actually won't move out at all unless you greet them. (if you play day by day that is.)

You need to greet them. Here are some tips:

If they ping you, ignore it.

Rarely talk to them

Report them to Town-Hall

I like to push them/hit them with nets.

There are probably TONS more but thats all I can think of rn.

Reporting them to the town hall does absolutely nothing other than remove custom catchphrases and change them out of custom designs.

I thought that if you ignored their pings, they would never move out as they would never be able to ask you if they should move or not(?)

(Same if you don't talk to them, hit them with nets, or push them; when they ping you to move, they'll say that they'll want to be better friends with you, and never move out)

They can leave without pinging you to let you know. I have Puck leaving in two days, haven't spoken to him since day one and have no plans to in case he pulls the "I've changed my mind" stunt.

If you play every day, they won't ping you and I've found they have a considerably less chance of moving out if you're not on talking terms with them. At least talk to them once a week.

They'll move out eventually, whether you greet/speak to them or not.

It's better to have a relationship with them, so that they'll ping you, and tell you which gives you the opportunity to talk them out of moving.

I have always thought that, as the villagers I like most are always the ones who want to move out, it's best to be good friends with unwanted villagers.

Treating villagers like crap doesn't help at all. It would make sense that it would, but it's all rng. So when someone pings you, it's just random if its to move or not. The more friendship points you have with a villager, the more likely they are to tell you they are moving because higher friend points means more chances they'll ping you. And these pings are all rng.

It's stupid yes, but that's the way it is.

Exactly this. I thought for the longest time that treating villagers like crap was the way to do it, but then I found out the truth and I've had an easier time moving people out.
