Would it be possible to have two islands on one Switch with this method?

yeah yeah, I know you can't straight up have two islands on one switch just by owning two separate copies, even if one is physical and one is digital.
but what I'm curious about is if it would be possible to have two islands if you bought two separate copies from different regions (e.g one copy from japan, one from usa)

I struggle to think of what else would happen if you tried doing this other than giving you two separate islands, but I'd like to know if anyone has already tried it? thanks man.

great game by the way

theoretically speaking, it should work?
i think ACNH works differently, but i was gifted both Splatoon 2 and Pokémon Shield by an US friend (I'm in Europe) and had to change my Nintendo Accounts "nationality" to US, because otherwise I couldn't play the games. what I'm guessing is, I'd need a copy from elsewhere (so, an US or JP one) and would have to change the nationality again, and I'd be good to go. this is also just guessing, so theory and not practice, but alas, it should be possible.

ah, yeah. I think I've seen people say this works with other games? can't find a source for that tho
I was also gifted the splatoon 2 octo expansion from a friend of mine, but because my splatoon 2 cart is from usa (i bought it on ebay, im from europe lol) and the dlc was from europe it wouldn't work. I still have yet to play octo expansion and it hurts very much :(

I think I might try buying a different region copy of acnh when I have enough money to do so and I'll update you guys on it. if it doesn't work I'll just have to sell it back lol. I really hope it does work because it'd be a neat workaround for all those poor souls out there who have siblings who want to play too. (i just want a spare island to tt in man but I can't imagine the struggle of sharing your island, that sounds truly traumatic)

that sucks. : ( though, i think it should work if you change your nintendo acc to US? unfortunately you won't carry the progress you've made on splatoon over, but you can finally make yourself suffer through the octo expansion.

oh, that's a good idea! i'm considering the same just to mess around a bit and maybe get a theme for one island going IF it works, but we'll see. worst case scenario is wasting 60 bucks i guess.

Hmm this is interesting. Is this because they’re online games? I’m in the US but received an EU copy of Link’s Awakening and didn’t have to do this to be able to play.

i can't speak for physical copies, but it seems to be. my friend sent me codes for both games, bought and intended to be redeemed in an american e-shop, and the games are non-playable for me even after downloading them for their respective e-shops, if my account does not have the right national setting. with the switch not being region-locked, i'm assuming the system doesn't care what you play if it's a physical copy.

Ohh that makes sense! I’ve heard about having to change the eShop to be able to play games that are from outside your region.

I haven't tried this myself, but I don't think it will work, unfortunately.

I bought a digital copy of the Japanese version of New Horizons. If I check the U.S. eShop with my U.S. account, it says that I've already purchased Animal Crossing: New Horizons. This makes me think they treat versions from each region as the same game. I do plan to get a physical copy of the U.S. version sometime to use for when I get a second Switch, but I probably won't get it for a while so I can't check yet, sorry.

Some games do treat copies from different regions as different games. I bought the digital Japanese version of Xenoblade Chronicles 2. The U.S. eShop does not list "Purchased" for that game. I know Splatoon 2 is another that has different versions for different regions, as others mentioned above. I think Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Version does, too. It would have been awesome if they could have done this for New Horizons! I don't have Splatoon 2 so don't know the details, but I know the Japanese versions of Xenoblade 2 and Hyrule Warriors have limited language options (just Japanese for Xenoblade 2 and Japanese, Chinese, Korean only for Hyrule Warriors, I think). They could have made different versions for New Horizons that differed by region but included all language options for each.

I have three accounts, two Japanese accounts and a U.S. account. I can play any game purchased from my main Japanese account from any of my accounts. Same with games purchased from my U.S. account. But some DLC is region-locked and must match the region of the game you have, so a U.S. copy would need U.S. version DLC and a Japanese copy would need Japanese version DLC.

Id love to know whether this works or not! I'd love another island but definitely cant afford a whole new switch
I really wish they didnt lock it to one island per switch because they couldve made so much more money by just letting people have multiple copies!

I really wish there was a way to make this work so i dont have to buy a whole second switch, ugh.
