Wisp with the womp-womp

So I've repeatedly read that you should always choose "something new" from Wisp instead of "something expensive" because his idea of his expensive is under 10K and with something new you'll always get something not in your catalog.

Well he just gave me something very definitely in my catalog. Coffee grinder. Have had it for ages, it's been part of my kitchen decoration for probably two months now. It doesn't have multiple hues, he just gave me the exact item I already had. Disappointing.

Has anyone else had Wisp totally blow it on "something new?"

Yes! I think twice he’s given me things I’ve already had the exact color too. I don’t even bother helping him anymore, it’s too much work and the items are not worth it.

Huh. I've always gotten new stuff so far I think, but that's good to know he won't always do it. Maybe it doesn't actually matter which one you pick and he picks a completely random item to give you every time kinda like balloons or villagers do?

Why does this not surprise me? He doesn’t seem to know what expensive means so this just makes sense.

I know his gifts are rubbish but I miss wisp.i haven't seen him in weeks.

oof that is frustrating. i only help him bc i'm a completionist and want the nook miles achievements, but his gifts usually suck. i haven't checked to see if i already had them in my catalog bc honestly... i don't want to know.

it's too bad he doesn't have his own furniture line or DIYs, because i'd love some spooky stuff!

People would love him more if he had exclusive items or diys. I'm just helping him for the nook miles achievement now. I have so many items cataloged that I'm probably going to get something I already have since the stuff I'm missing is the expensive stuff. 50k+

Wisp is cool, but he's given me two bad presents in a row so I don't help him anymore. I always find 4 fragments straight away and then spend hours looking for the last one.

I like that he always shows up in my cemetery (I guess just luck with my layout) but helping him is such a CHORE.

I don't think he's ever given me something new, he always says something along the lines of "well, whether you have it or not..." so I don't think he really tries to give you a new item, honestly. But I still help him, he looks so sad just floating around my town

If you don't have a full catalog then he has a lot of smaller items to choose from. I recently went to a bunch of cataloging islands and now when I talk to Wisp, he doesn't give me little table top items anymore. I got a retro gas pump in a colour I didn't have.

I'm fine with Wisp because I like getting random stuff to add to my catalog. Also, they are very cute with their lil bucky teeth.

I always request for something new but it's never new. There's a milestone to complete so I don't mind.

Is it poor Wisp? We ghosts scare him every time. There's no need to help him if we don't scare him. ;P

I really like seeing him roaming my island, so I'll leave him alone for a while, or scare him and leave his spirit to roam the night until shortly before logging out.

I was going to say that maybe it's a recolor, and that maybe if you have something cataloged, he'll still give you an item you once owned. Seeing how the coffee grinder doesn't come in different colors and that you have one already in your kitchen, I can't think of any other reason he'd give you something you already have.

He definitely gave me something I had more than once. I completed the diner set catalogue in all colours really early on in the game and he gave me diner chair and diner table

I’ve just accepted wisp has no brain and is our neighborhood dumb ghost with quite possibly the most infuriating task. He’s still cute though

imagine if we got actual ghostey items for helping wisp. i would kiiiiiiiiiiill for some haunted lantern or light options to place around the island.
