I mean I've seen them build on flowers but what about paths? I took hours paving my town also what is plot resetting

Yes, a villager will still put their plot on your paths. Plot resetting is an annoying process where you make a new save file and run around town looking for where they put their plot. You do this process until they're in a spot you want them to go to. Had to do some plot resetting today for Diana lol.

Yep, they can build on paths, which sucks. That happened in my boyfriend's town, and he was soooo ticked off. Ahahaha... That was not a good day for him.

Yep they definitely will build on paths. They will build anywhere where they think there is space basically. They can even build infront of the town hall. Villagers are practically allowed to build anywhere they want, as long as there isn't a PWP in the way. It's so silly how they can build their houses say right infront of a bridge but if you want to put a PWP beside a bridge, Isabelle claims your PWP is way too close to the bridge yet they can put their houses there. Plot resetting is when you use a second character to move around a villagers plot to where you'd ideally like it to be. It's most often used when you invite a villager into town, since the day they're going to put down their plot is definite. Say you invite a villager to move into your town. That villager will put their "plot" down the next in-game day announcing that they are going to move in. So what you do is the next day (inrl day) or if you don't want to wait use the 3DS internal clock but DO NOT use the one available to you when you start up the mayor. I'll get to that later though. Once it's a brand new day create a second character/new saved file. Whenever you create a second character the game will not save until you put your house down via nook and so on. Walk around your town for a bit until you eventually see a plot. If the plot isn't where you'd like it to be, reset and then repeat the process until you have the plot somewhere you'd like it to be.

The reason why I say not to use the mayor when you plot reset is because once you load the mayor, the game will save meaning the villager's plot will be permanent. However, if you use a second character, the game will not save since they aren't an existing character in town. This applies to all villagers that live in town already too, the game will save if you load them up so that villagers plot will be permanent. Keep in mind that a new in-game day is from 6:00am onwards.

Yes, they can build on paths.
Plot Resetting is fairly easy to do, but it can be boring.
1.Start up the game on the day when you know a villager is going to move in. Make a new human player. WARNING: DO NOT START WITH ONE OF YOUR EXISTING CHARACTERS.
2. Once you have made a new character, walk around town until you see the villager's reserved plot.
3. If you like where they are, talk to Isabelle and build your house.
4. If you don't, then turn off your system without saving. Then repeat the above steps.
The reason you can't start with an existing character is because it automatically saves your town as soon as you start the game. If you start with a new character, however, then your town won't save until you build your house.
I'm sorry if this a jumbled mess of instructions, but hopefully you understand them somewhat. I'm sure someone can explain it much better. :)
Oh, and I forgot to mention that once you build your house and save, you can always delete it afterwards. So no worries!

I used carefully spaced pwps to block villagers from sticking their house in areas I didn't want. I lined a major path with lamps, etc. Worked well. :)

Yes and it really does suck. Best bet is to plot reset when you can. (There's probably a guide somewhere on the internet about how to do it.)

I remember putting street light pwps on the corners of my paths in my old file just to keep them away from the paths o.o It was very frustrating.

Yes, unfortunately they will plot on your paths.
You can do what other people mentioned for plot resetting to prevent them from plotting on your paths.
Another thing you can do is place PWP in areas you DON'T want them to plot.
It can help with preventing them from going to that area or spot and making them plot in other select areas.
You can temporarily place lights or other 1x1 PWP in certain places just to prevent them from plotting there in order to do less plot resets.
