it's not really a wii problem more less... but i feel like venting...

ok, so i'm american, and i'm going to be frequently moving from america to new zealand - frequently meaning like once every few years possibly, back and forth to visit. my family lives in america, and my future husband's family lives in new zealand. neither of us want to really be deprived from seeing other people we love, so we're going to be doing a lot of traveling throughout the years ahead.

we also like to play video games. when i was in america, i had an american wii. push came to shove, drama happened, and i lost my wii to an old friend. actually they stole it, but regardless - it was out of my possession after that. back when this was taking place (and probably even still, but i don't know for sure as i haven't been in the country in a year) wiis were like in a crisis in america. everyone wanted one, but there weren't enough wiis. people would track down UPS trucks, spend their weekends outside of gamestores in line to be the first ones to buy the wiis when they came in on monday... or so they hoped... yes, alas, it was a sad time for me. i actually had a life and couldn't afford spending my time stalking UPS trucks and sleeping in oily parking lots 24/7.

a year goes by, and still no 2nd wii for me. i come to new zealand, and the scene is a full 180. we go in stores and there's wii boxes on display with dust on them, outside of the glass cases right beside the door to the shops! NO ONE WANTS WIIS HERE! me and my boyfriend buy one, we take it back home, and we're happy happy.

at first, we didn't buy any games because frankly, after buying the wii, we were broke. to try and make my situation better, my mom (with it being my birthday and all) decided to buy me mario kart in america and send it to me instead of sending me money, for me to have something to keep. i get it, but...

dun dun dun...

region codes! i can't play my mario kart because the game was made for american use, and i need one with an australian/european code... so i go on a quest and find something called the free loader. now, honest to god, i don't know if this is something terrible that i might be banned for talking about like the hacked items, and with that said, i bought the freeloader. if this means god is going to strike me dead tomorrow for mentioning it zetaboards, please forgive me.

basically what it does is allows your game system (my wii) to bypass the region codes on the games - so i could play my mario kart in peace - my american mario kart on my australian/european wii.

and i did. man i loved the new mario kart, played it every day for weeks, and i was SO looking forward to playing it on-line. me and my boyfriend spend money on all the necessities to be able to play it on-line, and i need to do a wii update to actually go on-line. no problem i think... until the update makes my freeloader void, and i can no longer play mario kart.

which would be ok if it was my one game... but my issue is this: i may have lost my wii to a hormonally challenged friend, but i didn't lose the games. i have zelda, super mario galaxy, mario party 8, all the wii sports games and add-on games to the add-on games... that i'm going to have to buy another wii to play because it's too hard for nintendo to just let their legitimate fans play their games on the consoles they spend money on.

now i know there's an argument, and a very valid one, about people burning games and it being possible to play those games by using the freeloader, but i'm a legitimate fan that means no harm, i just wasted a ton of money... and i'm pissed...

could nintendo not make a way for someone that has bought a game to put in a code to verify it has been paid for? maybe like the cards you buy for wii points that have to be activated before they work? i don't know... but seriously, the people are geniuses. they can think up some way to not screw over their fans in the unique situation that i'm in...

too bad it's all about the $$$.

thanks nintendo, for the slap in my face.

My wii has froze multiple times but other then that nothing really....oh, it has problems reading certain gamecube discs. It takes awhile for it to start loading lego star wars...
