I didn't really know where to post this. I hope this is okay here, otherwise, I hope someone moves it to the right section.

I seem to have a problem with having visitors come over. My Wi-Fi is horrible anyway since I use an old Nintendo Wi-Fi connector in combination with a mobile webstick, so I don't even have real Wi-Fi. However, while things tend to be slow when it comes to getting on trains, I can visit other towns without any problems and have done so quite a few times now.

However, when someone wants to come over, it doesn't work. I can open my gates just fine and then get the scrolling message that someone is coming. Then the screen turns black and the game tries to save for an eternity, but never finishes and then I get Resetti. The error message is a simple "An error occured, please try again later or contact support" thing, so not even a code I could look up and try to fix.

Since I really want to invite people over and remodel my train station one day, fixing this would be very awesome. Does anyone here have any idea what the problem could be? I'd be grateful for any pointers. =/

from my experience this is cause because of what you use to connect to the internet.
In City Folk, the router I used was decent at the time, and would let me visit other peoples towns, but as soon as I tried to get them to visit me, my gates would open fine, then when someone came to visit, it'd take forever to connect, and then disconnect.

I fixed this by getting new router though. Anything other than that, I really don't know how to fix.
Nintendo assumes that the majority of it's players use routers to connect to the internet instead of the USB stick thing so really idk.

A friend of mine used one of those USB wifi connectors for Pokemon back in regular DS days. I remember it could be really fussy at times and I usually had to host the trade we were doing. I'm afraid your problem is almost certainly going to be the connection setup you use, no way to get around it except to get a router :(

Ugh, I see. Sadly, there is no other way of me using Wi-Fi since I live in a really small town in Germany (population of 200) and no one ever considered adding us to the DSL-net, so the mobile webstick is literally the only way to connect to the internet and hence, I need the Wi-Fi connector to get my 3DS online as well. Well, this is upsetting. But thank you for the help! It's much appreciated! :)
