If you want to know what is considered acceptable and unacceptable in using the wi-fi rating system, here is a guide of the do's and don'ts of wi-fi ratings:

Positive Ratings:

DO:

These are the following reasons why you should give a positive wi-fi rating:

  • The trade went exactly the way it was planned.
  • The buyer paid the right amount of Bells the buyer promised or what the seller was looking for.
  • The seller gives the items or villagers the buyer is looking for.
  • The visitor was respectful to the host and followed the host's rules clearly.
  • The host was respectful to the visitor.

It's okay to give positive ratings for no connection issues too, but that's not a reason for positive ratings.

DON'T:

Do not give a positive wi-fi rating for any of the following:

  • Any trade exclusive to TBT (like positive ratings for giving collectibles).
  • Any trade on any game other than Animal Crossing. The wi-fi ratings are for Animal Crossing only.
  • If you won a TBT Bell/Collectible giveaway.
  • If anyone was nice to you, but you didn't organize a trade or meet-up with another person. This system is for online play and not forum activity.
  • Create multiple accounts to increase your ratings or someone else's ratings. This is considered abuse.

Negative Ratings:

DO:

These are the following reasons why you should give a negative wi-fi rating:

  • The buyer didn't pay the right amount of Bells (or didn't pay any Bells at all), but takes what he/she's buying.
  • The seller didn't give what the buyer is buying, but took the Bells.
  • The buyer or seller was was trying to re-negotiate during the trade, seller demands more or buyer wants to pay less. This includes backing out of transactions in auctions.
  • The visitor vandalized the host's town, stole items, or wandered off without notification or permission. You can also give negative rating if the visitor was being rude to the host or saying inappropriate or offensive things.
  • The host was disrespectful to the visitor, contains inappropriate content in town, or flips the wi-fi switch to kick the visitor out on purpose.

DON'T:

Do not give a negative wi-fi rating for any of the following:

  • Create multiple accounts to lower someone's wi-fi rating. This is considered harassment.
  • If you didn't even organize a trade, including site activity. If the person is being rude on the forums, scammed on TBT exclusive trades, or did something you didn't like, the negative rating is not a tool of hate.
  • If you were the scammer, vandal, or troll. Revengeful ratings are not acceptable.
  • Do not give negative ratings out of impatience, including if the trade took too long or if the person kept delaying the trade due to very important reasons.
  • Do not give negative ratings if you do not like the host's rules or town design.

Challenging Ratings:

DO:

Reasons why you should talk to a mod about wi-fi ratings:

  • If you didn't deserve the negative rating.
  • If the one deserving a negative rating gave you a negative rating for giving them a negative rating.
  • If the positive/negative rating was irrelevant to Animal Crossing or relevant to the site.
  • If the negative rating was accidental or regrettable when the recipient isn't guilty of something going wrong (reported from either the recipient or donor).
  • The rating was given by a person abusing the system.

DON'T:

Do not challenge against a rating or do any of the following:

  • If you were the scammer.
  • If you were disrespectful or a vandal.
  • Do not publicly blacklist anyone as a substitute for the negative rating.
  • Do not publicly blacklist anyone who abused the wi-fi rating system.
  • Do not challenge a wi-fi rating irrelevant to your interaction with the user.

And one more thing. Please add good evidence when writing the reasons of the wi-fi ratings, and do not add anything inappropriate to the comments.

It doesn't state anywhere that rewarding Wi-Fi rating is limited only to ACNL transactions, as I'm sure there are many people who have already received Wi-Fi ratings for trading Pokemon for TBTs or IGBs or for their good services. Unless that falls under ACNL, then nevermind.

Also, there are people who sell Steam games for TBTs (Gifts), so they should not receive rating for providing a service no matter how smooth it went or how satisfied the customer was just because its not an ACNL transaction?

And exclusive trades with TBT should count. You're still trading TBTs on the forum, so if you're buying/selling collectibles then I think you should gain rating.

All of the above are involved with TBTs, and if they fall under "Any trade on any game other than Animal Crossing." then I'm fine but if they don't then I don't necessarily agree with that rule.

I'm not sure why you're posting this. You're not a mod...? Aren't they supposed to give us the rules?

You can give/receive ratings if trading/playing in other games while using wifi to play with other people, hence the name wifi ratings.

I do agree with the collectibles part though.

He's just trying to put out a helpful guide for newer people, but like many things like this, some things need to be tweaked a little. c:

When I participated in giveaways those people got ratings bruh

I agree with this. I think the rest of the list is pretty good, but I also give people positive ratings for giveaways. I think that if someone is kind enough to give me something for free (and keeps up their end of the deal), they deserve a good rating.

I don't think the host should feel obliged to give out positive ratings to the participants, but it's a nice thing to do give give a good rating to someone who is kind enough to host a giveaway.

Why not give the positive for the giveaway?

It's a good, neatly organized guide to the basics.

As for the negative ratings, a mod told me some time ago that a negative was to really only be used if a "loss" had taken place and it is clear that there is no agreement to resolve the dispute (the latter part being added by me, no misquoting here fyi, but that's just for the one guy who goes "b-B-BUT WHAT ABOUT ______"). If the situation ends up resolved ("resolved" being under TBT's ruling), but it was clear they did a terrible job of trading, you are not permitted to give a negative. Just in case you want to add this to the guide.

When I mean giveaways, I meant the giveaways from the TBT Marketplace. I'll update my guide for clarification.

Ah, that makes more sense. Thanks for the clarification. I'm sure this guide will be useful for members who are quite new to the forums.

I'm pretty sure I gave positive ratings to the people I bought collectibles from. Should I not have done that then?

You can leave feedback for anyone you want, IMO. This isn't an official guide because it's not written by the staff and it's not a Sticky. If you bought collectibles and the transactions went well, I'm sure they appreciate feedback.

I had to re-read the rules on wi-fi ratings. It did say it's allowed for forum bell transactions, but one of the mods said that one of the top offenses of abusing the system is using it after collectible/TBT transactions. So I can say it's a good idea to leave positive feedback for buying/selling collectibles for in-game bells, buying/selling in-game bells or items for TBT bells, and buying/selling in-game items for in-game bells. This was only if we never play AC when making transactions.

@Tap Dancer: you have no reason to say that. These are just suggestions to new users.

I leave a positive wifi rating if any of the transactions I've done with a person went well.

If I entered someone else's town/had someone over to my town for trading/buying/give-away/island tours--basically anything, where the host/guest was polite and friendly, I give a positive rating. They were a pleasure to interact with, no matter the circumstance.

These are your opinions of what is and what isn't acceptable. I don't think it's fair to confuse people who might think this is an official guide the staff put together.
