Why would anyone want a drilling rig in their town?

I have not seen one town with this pwp before. It's such an eye sore. Does anyone have it in their town?
I'm curious to see how people designed around it!

I'm pretty sure it docks your perfect town rating too. It seems like one of the most useless PWPs to be honest.
But I too am curious to see what people have done!

I had it in my town once because I sorta had a little story to go along with it. My mayor was money hungry and had sold out parts of the land to the oil company for extra cash on the side.

I'm going to use it in my fourth town, but only because the fictional town it's based on is a mining town, and the oil drilling rig is the closest thing available.

I've been to a couple of nice dream towns that had it. But I wouldn't put it in my towns, I heard it can lower your chances of getting a perfect town status.

I bought a used ACNL cartridge a couple of years ago and the town on it had a bunch of oil drilling rigs and almost nothing else(except for the villagers' houses and the mayor's house of course).All the trees were gone and the town was set in November so the grass was all brown.It was the ugliest town I've ever seen.

I'm not a fan. I prefer zen and fairy tale pwps, so I've never built one, even though it's been available since shorty after I started my town.

I think it's a cool pwp, but it doesn't fit in any of my towns. I guess it would depend on the theme of your town.

I actually quite like this. I built it once to see what I could do with it and decided with my current town it wouldn't work. If I had more room for alt characters (which I don't really want 4 of them anyway) I would find a road/pavement pattern and then I'd use the drilling rig on like a builders yard off to the side of the road. Probably or making much sense but I thought about it a lot. Can't think of another situation I'd use it in though

It doesn't fit all towns but I think there are themes it's perfect for, such as the ones already mentioned here or a post-apocalyptic town for example. I actually think it can look really nice in the right environment.

I think it's fun to stare at for a while, but I wouldn't want it in my town. I guess it'd fit a more modern, city-like theme but uh..yeah, kind of a strange PWP lol. Like that giant rotating cube thing.

I like it...I had it in one town near the railroad crossing. I like the pwps that have sound and motion.
