So I finally unlocked the wooden bridge, and I was eager to replace the ole suspension bridge- so I went ahead and demolished it. STUPID STUPID STUPID. When I go to build it, I can't get it ANYWHERE on the strip of river between where it bends and the ocean waterfall- Isabelle says there is a building on the other side. What building? The FREAKING Roost. I tried building it from the other side. Nope there is a building in the way! Even though it's plenty far away -.-. Now the only place to build it is on the complete other side of the cafe totally FUBARING the flow of my town. CRYING

Id post a map but I suck at importing them from the DS ;\

Aww :c I'm still trying to unlock the Fairy Tale bridge and I'm planning to replace all of my current cobblestone bridges with them

I hate the PWP placement limits. they are so restrictive. I wish nintendo would make an update to the game to fix the PWP Limits.

I feel you pain. The same thing happened to me in my last town, and I was so upset that I reset! I was just frustrated though, and I probably didn't need to reset, but now I have been SUPER careful while building public works projects in my town!

I just did the same thing. Tried replacing it with it with a modern bridge but isabelle said it's to close to my house. I worked around it but it makes getting around my town take longer (until I get the wooden bridge to put in the zen area it's taking forever to go to the plaza)

The same happened with me. -.- I was going to put a suspension bridge by my house, and my house was on a little penninsula so I thought it would look nice. But Isabelle said I can't put it there even though I was 100% sure there was enough room since my house wasn't THAT close to the river. Now I had to connect the bridge DIAGONALLY. I now have 2 diagonal bridges since Isabelle kept telling about how I can't put a bridge somewhere lol.

Yeah same thing happened to me. When I unlocked the wooden bridge I went and demolished the two I had and replaced them. Everything was going smoothly until I came down to the second bridge and it was too close to Flurry's house. Due to this the bridge was much further to the right then I would've liked it to be and even after she moved away I haven't bothered to change it.

The guide Ras gave has too much theories and technical issue. The guide I made (on my Tumblr) is clear cut. If you plan to plot a bridge after you erected houses and PWPs. The space requirement is a 12 by 12 area regardless of vertical, horizontal or diagonal.
Just google images "bridge space requirements guide animal crossing new leaf" and the first image will be the diagram I made.

Actually, it's not quite 12. I placed a bridge when I first started the game where one of my starter's houses is, and it's closer than that. :c

Do you still have that bridge? I would like to count it.

I'm so sorry :c
This was part of the reason why I restarted my last town. The bridges weren't placed right and couldn't be moved...
Bridges are just too frustrating in this game >.<

Mhm! I can take some screen shots. Or you can visit my dream town. It's my right bridge. I'm pretty sure Vic's house is closer.

I'll go to your dream town and get you a visit. xD Also I'll make a long last impression on your villagers.
edit: I see now if Vic's house was there first. Then the requirement is a 10x10. Basically trimming my thoughts on the bridge requirements by 1 space on all four sides.
edit: :D now wait for Vic to tell you about what I did in you dream!

Sure! Also, my boyfriend has a vertical bridge he built after his house. If you want to check it, his DA is 5000-4331-0622. He said it's 4 spaces away, which is right, if bridges don't consider the buffer zone in front of it? It's not directly in front, but that wouldn't make a difference if it's not far enough horizontally, right?

I'm not knocking you at all, by the way. This is driving me as bonkers as everyone else, and every experience helps. Especially when they can be verified.

EDIT: Does it count buffer zones of other objects? Like Vic's house?

EDIT II: You ran around naked and blinded all my villagers, didn't you. ._.

Lol Right when I refreshed the page and saw your comment about blinding your villagers. I was at Pierce's house and I stripped down.

Hehehe... Pierce looks happy.
For your horizontal bridge you are right about 10x10. Also all pwps and houses should count as obstructions. I am visiting your friend's town next.

My poor bird... D8

Okay! His is the one I'm most curious about, as info is very conflicting on vertical bridges (excluding the zip we know on diagonals. x3).

Pierce loves it... he wants my new leaves! xD
Your friend's house fits the 10x10 space requirement. Also my Lopez's house is by a diagonal bridge. His house takes the 12x12 space requirement but I am sure it can fit the 10x10 space requirement if the bridge moved one space towards the left.
In conclusion:
New Bridge Requirements.jpg
^ The red is what I fixed. And it should be 10x10 for now.
Vertical.jpg
^ This is the space req by your friend's house.
Diagonal.jpg
^ This should be the bridge req by Lopez's house decreased by 1 space from every side.
