Why is there no fireworks show today?

To be fair, they'd have to research the customs on Independence Day and then code it in for all countries if they were to do it for the USA. Plus, there's not really reason to celebrate it in your town. (You live in an animal crossing town, where they have no idea the USA exists.)

you have a north america copy, not a usa copy. having mexico and canada celebrate another country's independence is just silly

this too, i doubt the towns are meant to be in a specific country

"In Animal Crossing, fireworks can be seen in the lake on the 4th July, which coincides with American Independence Day. But Animal Crossing celebrates the opening of the train station. They also appear during New Year's Eve, to celebrate the end of the year and the beginning of a new one."

They removed it in WW so I honestly have no idea why you're expecting it in New Leaf. By the way, it was never called Independence Day.

I may be wrong, but I don't think animal crossing celebrates any real holidays. For the big ones that most of the world celebrates, there's a sort of generic holiday (xmas, Easter) but there's not actual christmas for example. For the smaller ones only celebrated by a small group, such as July 4th or a holiday for any othe one country, they don't acknowledge it. I think they want everyone playing the game to have the same holiday experiences, regardless of where you're from. OP, its not a bad question though. There's fireworks all through August, if that helps.

Like Goodra stated, each copy is regional. If the entire region celebrates it, then it will probably be in the game or at least made mention of. If the 4th of July were in the game to please the US, we'd need Canada Day on the 1st and Cinco de Mayo.

I think that a way of working around copies being for a whole region would be to base it on your 3DS country settings, like the Vivillons in Pokemon X&Y which have different patterns depending on your location (even within the same country, they can have different patterns). However, I think that having 4th of July for USA gamers would be much more complicated since it would mean they'd have to include a bunch of country-specific holidays for everyone else and that would be a lot of work, not quite the same as having a small number of options that vary depending on your location. The other holidays in the game are also quite generic, the only exception are probably the solstices.
