Why is Merengue so popular?

People like her for various reasons. Design, personality, whatever. I actually have no clue which one of those it is because I don't like her either. That's it really, nothing else to it.

The answer is basically what FireNinja1 said though, people like her general design, she's quite aesthetically pleasing, because her design can appeal to both genders despite the overall pink theme.
She also has a pretty cool house inside and out, and the Normal personality is also another plus for her, because her sweet theme fits her personality.

However people might not like her because she does look a bit strange compared to the other rhinos, but some people consider that a good thing because a lot of people don't like the other rhinos. Also, some people like to be hipsters and hate the popular villagers

Also, her house exterior is pink/red. A lot of people have towns where the main landscaping revolves around a colour theme. That's the main selling point for me. I think I would have let her go by now if it wasn't for the fact that her house fits in *perfectly* with my town. It also matches her neighbour's (Apple's) house perfectly.

Like, I like the way Whitney looks but I'm definitely not going to keep her because her house exterior is blue/grey/orange and it clashes with everything in my town...

True, but it's also tiring to have people say what other people "need" to do or not to do. People have the right to post that they are tired of these threads as much as those who have the right to ask the questions. Telling people what to say smacks of bullying to me and I don't take well to bullying. I know that is probably not your intent, but I think people should (note I am not saying "need") be tolerant and civil and they can be so, but also express some exasperation once in a while.

I don't have Meringue, but from her Wiki and her house design both inside and out, I can see why she is so pleasing and fitting for many towns. I have one she would be great in.

It's not recreating a thread that's the problem, it's the fact that there are so many threads that are just meant to ask why a villager is popular. I'm relatively new here and even I am getting tired of those. They just come across as "I want to hate on this villager, let's all hate, and I won't even say it upfront, I'll just frame it as a passive-aggressive question".

The answer to all those threads is this: (villager name) is popular because lots of people like the design. It's really that simple.

I don't care about Merengue, but she has a cute design and looks like food so she probably appeals to a large part of the game's players. Look at how many towns there are with a kawaii, pink, or food theme.

I had her in my town too, she was boring, I liked her strawberry horn, but other than that nothing else. She moved out without me knowing, i only felt a little disapointed I couldnt give her away to someone who would actually like her. Maybe she streetpassed into mh other town.

She has a "cute design." But honestly, in my opinion, she's just a regular rhino. I used to like her. A lot. But what's weird about me is that I judge villagers by their design and how they sing the town tune. I visited a dream town with her in it, and I hated how she sang it. So, I don't really like her anymore, but I don't know any more than you do about why Merengue is popular.

I moved her in from my campsite a few weeks ago and I don't regret it. She has a nice design, and like some others have said, her house is quite appealing too. I'll probably keep her around until I acquire her photo, and then she'll be free to go as she doesn't really fit in my imagined (yet to be realized) town.
