Why is Food CPU Only?

Honestly I didn't even think about this....but sitting on a bench and drinking my little pixel to-go coffee from brewsters with my friends or running around with a glow wand was one of the coolest parts of new leaf. I get excited over the tiny things. Now i just run around with my wand in my hand lol
I’m really hoping for these things! I didn’t play any of the earlier games (NH is my first!) but what I’m seeing in this thread looks so cute 
I’m assuming that small items like these would take up the umbrella slot? I’m begging them to add things like this that would immerse us in the game even further

I really love watching the npcs and their little popsicles but I didn't even consider that I might like to have one too! It does feel like you're pretty left out when three of your villagers are eating ice cream side by side in your plaza, and you just want one too for a photo op 
I do enjoy things being released in updates, though. I think it keeps the game feeling fresh!

It's kind of annoying that a basic command like sit down wherever (like all the villagers do) is not possible. It almost feels like we're playing the triail version of an incomplete game and the villagers are the ones who paid for the full package.
I'm realizing a lot of folks here have only played NH so they might not know what they took out. It's honestly really lazy on Nintendo's part. I kind of want to compile a back to back vid of NL and NH on what they did right, wrong, and what they're missing. I feel like that's the only way many of us will realize how short of a stick we got on NH. It could had been so much better.

Omg yeah!! I've thought about this so many times when my villagers are all just chilling in the plaza!! I want in on the fun too!!
Right? I would had commented on the other things they do like yoga, dancing?, singing, rocking to music, ect, but I feel like just plopping their butt down shouldn't be such a hard command to code/implement.
It's stuff like this that makes me feel like I'm not really included in the game. You know like that group of 'friends' that always forget to include you in something. Your villager is just 'there'

Right now I feel like its very likely they bring back hand held stuff like the coffee cup/drinks, balloons, sparkles, and food (even though in NL I think you ate a piece of food in like one bite and not carry it around lol). Lots of people liked this/it was used very often so I would assume they would add this again in NH! Who knows though, but its definitely something I'm hoping for!
I think that's a fantastic idea.
Then those new to the game can see why those of us who have been playing for years, are complaining about missing content.

they want us to starve basically lol. they didn't even give us food items that existed even in older games. if the reason of this isn't because they actually will implement a food related update in the future, then idk what's going on in their minds.

Yeah, I must admit, I sometimes got a bit jealousy over my villagers having these cool little snacks, sandwiches and such. Part of me hoped you could "unlock"/buy them when you trade Nook Miles for the snack/drink machine, was quite disappointed that they turned out just to be decoration. There's only hope that the Roost coming back soon and may offering something like this. Alternative, maybe Nook's Cranny gets an update/upgrade with new items for sale, including these. Perhaps the August update may gave us an option to obtain these in some way now? (At least it's nice to dream about it, lol.)

Agree that we’ll likely get a few food/drink options if/when the cafe is introduced. We already have a few small held items like the musical instruments, fans, and poppers. Hoping more will get added with the next summer update (ice cream and balloons would be lovely).

I'm pretty sure that was the Famous Mushroom- which was based on the ones from Mario games, which also make you big~
Frankly, there are lots of cute food items we saw the villagers run around with... they could do a mix of ones just for fun, and ones that are useful
