I really hope this thread doesn't result in an argument, but I just need to rant because I'm a bit confused. Maybe it's cause I can't comprehend the topic.

Ever since I've been on this forum, I've seen multiple threads where people say stuff like, "Why do people love _____ so much? Here are all the reasons why I hate _____ and why you should hate him/her too!"

Villager wars, I suppose. Somebody likes a villager that somebody else doesn't like, and they go at each other's throats... I've seen this a lot with Marshal. Every single thread I see about this stuff are always like "Marshal is so overrated I hate him!" and they word it in a way that may make people feel guilty or bad for having Marshal as a dreamie.

I'm not a huge huge fan of Marshal (Kyle is my favorite Smug) but I don't see the point in trying to make other people not be a huge fan of him either... Why can't everybody just accept the fact that people have different opinions on different villagers?

If you love Limberg, hey, more power to you. If you love Marshal, that's great! It's your town, so don't let anybody tell you what villagers you should or shouldn't have in your town... They're not the ones who will have to deal with them every day.

I honestly don't know why it matters at all. Maybe some people genuinely want to know why others like so-and-so very much over so-and-so.

Sometimes, unfortunately, I feel that people either want to try and stand out by professing hatred towards a popular villager and thus feel unique and different, and sometimes people simply want to provoke a reaction - ie, troll.

Personally I don't mind friendly discussion, and when it is friendly and civil, I've actually given a villager or a villager type a chance that I normally would have passed on for no particular reason. I see now, for example, that I like some gorillas even tho at first I didn't care for their overall design. I now find Rocket sweet and Hans is, too. :)

I think because most of those people are very immature and it bothers them that no one loves their favorite as much as Marshal or whatever.

I get annoyed too with marshal (or Rosie lol) but it's pretty pointless to make a thread about it like we get it you're different big woop. Also you know this will offend other people just what would you gain from that ...

I think we should all spread positivity on this site. It's just a game after all ...

I actually agree with this. ^-^ Every vilager deserves to be appreciated for different reasons, but no one should be forced to like one.

I've never seen any wars about AC but personally all wars get on my nerves. There's no need. I have Truffles moving out and I've heard rumours of her being hated, but it's always people asking about the drama rather than the drama itself.

Perosnally, I love Marshal because he was the first Smug character I ever got and as adorable as heck, so when I went into the comm. I was shocked by his popularity. Forcing your opinions on other people though is too much :s

Very well put, everyone. I also think we should add that nobody should really force their opinion on everybody else in a hostile and condescending manner.

I think it honestly might be a little bit of the whole
"look at me!! i'm not like everyone else!! marshal's lame!!! so edgy!!!" kind of thing.
Like its popular to hate popular things, y'know?

Forcing people to like/dislike certain villagers is just silly, imo.

People take it so seriously ):
There's so much putting other people down for the villagers like they like, and a lot of people getting personally offended when people don't like their favorites. I figure it's at least in part that there's a lot of younger folk here ): (not that some of the youngin's aren't mature/capable of rational thought).

I also have seen someone I am fairly convinced wants to be seen as radical and different even tho he/she really is not any more so than the rest of us, and he/she gets angry and hostile when not seen that way. I think this person's RL is frustrating right now and brings the angst here, which is not really very productive, except for earning TBT bells for ranting posts.

Literally this. And not only that, but people who like popular **** just because it's popular get up in arms too.
Ban every thread comparing villagers imo, or create a sticky. I've been saying this for eons. I would literally willingly sit through reading 50 "WoW is DyING!1!!1!one" threads than read another "CUBE IS bETTr THAN bEAU" "WHY Do PPL LIEK deeRZ" "MArSHAL IS DA bes" "MARsHAL Iz OvRATED" thread.

Maybe I'll just scoop my eyes out instead.

And yes, stardrop is right, part of it has to do with how young some people are, which I often forget about. I like to assume people are at least 16, but reality tells me that isn't the case most of the time.

Agreed. I've always found it so pointless to argue about most/least favorite villager. People will always have villagers they love to death and villagers that they can't stand. It's like convincing someone to give up their favorite food or music just because ONE ASININE PERSON doesn't like that they like it.

Everyone has their own opinions. Can't we just all leave it at that?

I don't think it's a matter of hating someone because of different tastes, but getting to know the reasoning behind other ppl's opinions. Which, if done in calm and peaceful way, can result in a constructive discussion rather than a flame war.

Though the fact that we all have different opinions doesn't mean that we should just stop discussing about them completely. Hearing out other people can help us look the same thing from different angles, which is an ability we must try to apply in everything, not just AC.

For example, I really hate Genji, a character that apparently is kinda popular among AC players. If I was to discuss this with a Genji lover I wouldn't be trying to convince them that Genji sucks, but hear from them what's supposed to be so great about him, which is something I really can't understand on my own.

Yes! Calm and civil discussion can be very fun and instructive. In that sense I don't mind comparing villagers, personality types, or design, either. That would actually be fun.

I am curious why some people really like a design that some other people do not. I like the insight.

I can respect if someone posts asking for opinions on a villager but that respect is out the window when the first sentence is, "I don't understand why people like X villager." or "Why is X villager so popular?". It's even more disappointing when the first post includes the sentence, "Everyone has their opinions I guess." Threads like those are people looking to antagonize everyone else for not sharing their opinion because theirs is the common sense opinion.

Hahahaha I wonder how many people can't guess who this is. There's actually a few of them here, but one is so very prominent on this subforum. And to clarify I'm not trying to shame anyone here, but this repetitive behavior is so very draining and got old very quickly.

I much prefer the trolls on the MMOC boards, at least they're creative while being inflammatory.

Yessss, preach it. People take it way too seriously.
It's quite simple: just shut up and let people like who they like. It's just a game.

Precisely. Sums it up well.

ayoooo we got a winner here

I sense drama coming ahead...

I think that everyone should be entitled to their own opinion. I mean, they're arguing over pixel animals when you could be doing something waaay more productive. Like watering your flowers ;D
