So while being on this site I've noticed people really like Ankah. It seems like she's one of the most popular villagers out there. And...I don't really see why? Like, what's the appeal behind her? I got her as a starting villager in my 2nd town and if I'm being honest, she's not even that cute or anything. So why does everyone love her so much?

It seems that people like villagers that stick largely to a theme.
I find her as an alright villager (bonus points for being a cat), but she's definitely not one of my dream villagers.

I think that it's partly her unique design. Like Stitches, Tangy, Merengue, Zucker, etc. most villagers who are designed to be a novelty or look completely different from the other animals of their species are going to be seen as unique and cool.

The other aspect is the fact that Ankha, in one of the first Animal Crossing games, was the only villager on the island and was, as such, almost like a special character. You could only go to the island and meet her if you had a Gameboy, so she was somewhat rare or exclusive due to limited island access. Having her as a full-time villager and not just an islander is very exciting for some people because they liked her in AC: Population Growing, and it gives them a sense of nostalgia. Plus, Ankha actually was quite cute in the earlier games (IMO), so its easy to see why people became fond of her.

Finally, I think another factor is that there aren't many cute/unique/pretty snooty villagers (especially compared to peppies or normals), so for people who want to have one of at least every personality in their town, she's a popular choice.

If you're gonna bring it up, I feel the same in vice versa way about Rodney. Why people dislike Rodney that much... though he's a great cute smug.
... (ーωー)

I like Ankha because I'm fond of villagers who stand out among the rest, and her Ancient Egyptian design definitely does so. Additionally, Snooty is my favorite of the female villager personalities and she has that going for her as well. The interior design of her house looks pretty nice, she's given me a free throne before, and she pairs well with the Lazy mummy dog, Lucky. I have both of them living in my main town. Unfortunately her house is in a pretty awkward spot that I wish I could fix with an amiibo card (but those are way too expensive now), but hey, nothing's perfect in life so whatever.

Also, regarding her not being "that cute", it all comes down to personal taste. I love a bunch of villagers who would be considered low-tier by the community. For example, Rasher, with his distinctive scars and the mischievous grin he does sometimes.

There's also that aspect, but to be clear, she wasn't the only island resident. There were others like Boomer and June. There were actually 18 islanders in Animal Crossing and 18 other ones in Animal Crossing e+. Though that's just semantics on my part, your main point is sound.

But yeah, like others and I have mentioned, she's got a quite distinct look to her that can make her more interesting than just another "cute" cat.

I love Egyptian mythology/history, so Ankha being themed around that made her a must own. Besides, Cleocatra in general is just awesome!

Yes, you're right! Sorry for being unclear. I should have stated that better - my apologies! I meant that she was (one of the possible) island-only residents, of which each save file only had one. Thus she was quite rare and special. (As were all the possible islanders, though I believe even among them she was very popular.)

Personally, I like Ankha because I love ancient Egyptian history and I find her quite beautiful. I like lots of different villagers for various reasons, and I usually find that I have a preference for the lower-tiered, underappreciated villagers, but Ankha is one of the rare popular villagers that I truly love. Despite that, I still wouldn't have her in my current town because I just believe she would stand out too much...but match her up with some of the other unique and striking villagers and she's amazing.

Of course, it's all in the eye of the beholder. If you don't like her or just don't don't see what all the hype is about, that's perfectly okay too.

Totally agree with you. Her features are a bit different than everyone else and I don’t really think she fits right with many towns unless they have an Egyptian theme going on.

Same!! I had her in a town that lasted 2 days. Her constant frown bothered me. I don?t miss her.

plus those colors are just awful

I like Ankha because she's one of those unique looking villagers, which I personally like the most. She is
one of my favorite villagers for a long time now and I also think she looks adorable. Besides that, Ankha
and Lucky makes a good duo together, just like Chrissy and Francine. I understand if not everyone likes
her that much, but that's the case with every villager, as every person has another tase when it comes
to the villagers and their looks

I think that she definitely fits also in another themes besides the Egyptian theme. Like for example, if
you go with a "all Unique villager" theme or a elegant/modern theme, then I think she would fit into it
too.

I had Ankha for a while in one of my towns and I liked her but she had maybe two facial expressions. She always looked like she was really bored....or maybe just constipated.I can see why she's popular because of her unique appearance and her Egyptian themed house, similar to Lucky's.Speaking of Lucky,he might be covered with bandages and have only one eye visible but even he has better facial expressions than Ankha.

One big part of it is her unique design.

Did you know anka means duck (bird) in Swedish?

I love her design except for her face. I wish she didn't have that constant frown. It's one reason that Marshal took so long to grow on me.
