I don't get it. I've been trying to cycle in new villagers, getting old ones to leave, but so far it's been Dreamies, villagers who I send letters to practically every day, waking up 6am on-the-dot (sad, I know) to speak to my villagers. So why are they the ones that always ask to leave? Surely if they barged into my house, just to give me gifts, they would want to stay? Just seems like flawed logic to me. Sorry, just felt like I had to get that out my system. So does anyone know any methods of getting villagers you don't like to leave? Or do I just keep TTing backwards and forwards? Any advice would be appreciated

Honestly, I think it's somewhat randomized which villagers ask to leave. It seems like the game is weighted so the same villager won't ask twice in a row.

However, I also find that people telling you to ignore a villager, push them into taps, hit them with nets, etc, to get them to leave... Well, it doesn't work. If you ignore a villager, they won't ping you because eventually you'll need to talk to them to clear out their waiting "We haven't spoken in so long!" messages.

As much as it sucks, when it comes to villagers you hate, you have to talk to them frequently. I'll find a villager is more willing to move the more they like you. This also applies to when a villager you have an iffy relationship with DOES ping to leave, but then decides to stay anyway. Be friendly, do favours, and eventually they'll leave.

Editing because I forgot to mention; unless they changed this with the Welcome Amiibo update, the 10th villager, or the most recent to move in, won't be the one to move. You'll need to move someone else out, first.

Yea, I figured I'd have to talk to them. I have Derwin (cute, but ugly-cute and definitely underrated) but i have another lazy villager and I've been trying to cycle villagers out to get new people. It's always the ones you want to stay tbh. I'm still scarred from losing Blanche in a time-travel incident, so I'm careful about time travelling too far forward. Frustrating, but I'll keep at it!

And yes, with the new update it's a LOT harder to get a 10th villager out. Amiibo scanned villagers don't ever move, or so I've heard.

I've heard this too, and I'm not sure if it's true or not. I know special characters like Epona won't be adoptable into other villages once she's in boxes, but I don't know if she'll ever ask me to move. Right now, she's no longer the 10th Villager. Drago replaced her as the 10th. So if Epona ever tells me she wants to move, I'll let you know if it happens naturally. What I've heard, however, is that to get out a special Amiibo-summoned character like Epona, you need to scan in a different Amiibo card and force them out that way.

Maybe some people like it, but I don't like the extended time waiting for someone to move. It's now 10 days instead of 7. It feels like it takes FOR. EVER. when someone decides to go if you don't TT.

I always TT if I want a villager out. I have the Make Town Beautiful ordinance in place, and if I don't, I throw a bunch of flowers in storage for safe-keeping. Then I travel back again when the villager's gone. The slight hassle is worth the certainty of someone like Chops or Rizzo leaving.
