Why do people want The Roost back?

Nostalgic reasons mostly; I liked working my part time job at the roost in new leaf as a barista! It was nice seeing villagers come in and remember what kind of favorite drinks they would like. Plus I like being able to have another new building addition on the island (or even another section of the museum, either or is fine by me) And I like coffee, so there’s that!~ෆ

I'd really love a social spot on the island where villagers and special characters could hang out, especially late at night. Other thoughts:

-I think KK's performance on the plaza is a little cramped and makes no sense when it's raining. Having a dedicated indoor space for his concerts would be an improvement IMO. You could even combine The Roost with Club LOL in some fashion and have a dedicated entertainment venue as well as bring back Shrunk.

-The coffee mechanic is a fun and brief daily ritual that could have simple changes to gameplay (more speed, glittering, more likely to trip, hair color or style for 15 minutes)

-Gyroid storage

-A place to idle and/or listen to a jukebox that plays special music like ambient music from previous games.

Just some ideas.

@Jaco it would be great for KK to have a place inside for his performances. It’s sad seeing him play in the rain.

I want it to have its own building because I want to be able to decorate the outside of it and have a little outdoor seating area. I also loved the to go coffee in new leaf and I hope that returns.

Something that I think would be cool, and keep in theme with the way New Horizons is going: I want to see the baby-version of Brewster. Nat got Flick, Chip got C.J. - so I think another cool way to keep things new and fresh would be a cool young birb. Personally, I could totally imagine a worldly girl-pigeon barista that drops worldly facts on me about all kind of things while I drink my warm mocha in game (and probably real life). The Roost has always given off such a neat vibe that is very much missing in this game, and I'd be super curious to see what comes in the future of NH and how they implement a cafe this time around.

I'd love to get a separate building, even if I might not have the room for it, but it looks like the roost might go in the museum again (according to the datamine.) I miss having chats with Brewster every time I visited him, as well as any villagers having a sip of coffee. Working there was really fun too and it gave coffee brewing items and unique gyroids. I really hope he comes back. :)

As a coffee fan, it resonates with me on a deep level. Beyond that, though, it's just a chill place with, if you ask me, the best music in AC games, when it exists within the game. Plus, it usually involves some sort of daily activity that can keep you busy, which is always nice.

I mainly want it for the return of the gyroids that will supposedly come along with it! I always loved the gyoids in previous games. I do like Brewster as well, so it will also be nice to have him back~

i wouldn't mind if it either came back or didn't come back.... i mean, i didn't mind it in wild world... that's the only one i've played... haven't played new leaf yet....

but neither me or my oc, penny drink coffee.....

For me The Roost was the most relaxing part of the game. Brewster is the sweetest, and i miss him dearly. Part of it is nostalgia, but mostly the relaxing atmosphere, and amazing service.
I really did enjoy working at The Roost in NL. I hope they bring that back, or some new feature besides getting coffee. I really want a new building in this game, and I hope that we have an option to build the Roost, or put it in the museum. My guess is it will probably only be the museum, but I can dream.

I want the roost back mostly because of the calming music hahaha and I liked being all cute and making coffee for my villagers even if they did not like it they were polite haha

Without reading the comments, my guess on why people in general are so desperate for him:

- Coffee as a pop culture icon, millenial obsession; cultural aesthetic if not necessarily visual one
- Coffee is also a nice drink ngl, am a big fan
- Brewster is introvert/quiet type character, fun to befriend over time much like Sable
- Nostalgic because he's been around since at least WW (never played GC myself)
- Coo
- In NL he gave you something to do with yourself other than decorate or make bank
- Now associated with gyroids because Brewstoids and gyroids haven't returned yet either
- One of the older "main characters" of AC like Tom Nook, Resetti, etc that it just doesn't feel right without
- Among the older main characters that haven't come back (Katrina, Lyle) probably the first one on most people's minds because he's the one you see most often of that group

if you're asking specifically why the physical building over the museum, I suspect just NL nostalgia vs WW/CF nostalgia. Also a difference in how much space people are willing to accommodate for a separate building on people's already heavily cluttered/decorated islands

plenty of reasons!
  • coffee and hot beverages in general are great
  • it would be nice to have another building, and cafes have really cozy vibes that belong in an animal crossing game
  • the nostalgia / its been in the games for so long so we kind of expect it
  • Brewster is great!
  • it might come with the addition of food / beverage / cafe related furniture and DIYs which we really need considering how many users have build cafes and restaurants on their islands
  • if we can work there, it'll give us more to do on our islands
  • and my main reason: it would give us another way to interact with our villagers!
Everything you said here is why I want The Roost back! I needs my Brewster too hnnnghh. 😭😭

I think making the Roost a social hangout would really help our islands feel more alive. Special NPC's can visit not for business but to hang out, we could hang out with our villagers, and there could be events throughout the week like KK and Shrunk, as you say :).

I wonder if the Roost is taking more time because it actually brings with it more dialogue than any of the other updates?

I love all this. I also agree the Roost should be a standalone building. Our islands have more space than we realise and I don't think the goal is to have people "finish" their islands so nothing ever gets moved or relandscaped. Happens all the time, change every once in a while is good.

Being it's own building also really helps give us more places to go daily. So as well as popping into Ables / Nooks we swing past the Roost. I imagine the Museum has other upgrades planned.....Celeste Planterium anyone?

it felt very communal, always! villagers coming in, NPC, making coffee and learning your villager's orders, carrying out coffee and having it around town. something about all the actions with it were very comforting and interactive in a different way than all the rest of the buildings? plus i like coffee lol

@dino, from Post #04, nailed it for me. (Thank you, @dino!)

I will add: “New Horizons” is lacking without a good number of the Non-Playable Characters (NPCs) we enjoyed in “New Leaf.”

I want Roost Café improved (which is what I would imagine would happen). Not just for coffee but also hot chocolate and another drink. (I know the game doesn’t want to go full-on with a café menu. I would also like a section of baked goods. (“New Horizons” is appalling in its lack of food items we should be able to have available in our houses. Not everyone played, and/or enjoyed, “Pocket Camp.”)

I am one who suggested, months ago, consolidating buildings which exists and I would do the same for Roost Café. (I want the NPCs using Resident Service space, who can actually be in buildings, given their overdue upgrades.)

• I would take Able Sisters and expand it by having Sable and Mable remain on Level #01; bring in Label of Level #02; return Gracie to the game and assign her Level #03; and add Kicks to the basement.

• I would take Nook’s Cranny and split Timmy and Tommy onto separate floors—Levels #01 and #02—as handled in “New Leaf.” I would return Reese and Cyrus and bring in Leif. (I tend to think putting Re-Tail in the basement would work better. Have Cyrus be able to customize those furniture pieces that have been color-specific so that we can end that part of cataloging. Locate Leif on Level #03 with a nice, open floor plan.)

• I would expand Resident Services to bring back the Post Office (and assign it Level #02) while retuning to the game the Police Station (and assign it to the basement).

• I would add a new building that is the Roost Café. I would have Brewster on Level #01 and a housing of the Gyroids in the basement. To Level #02 I would add K.K. Slider. (If one wants a restaurant, make it Level #02, and have K.K. Slider perform on Level #03.)

I recognize “New Horizons” did not want to mirror “New Leaf.” So, this means some NPCs are not available in “New Horizons.” (Examples: Shampoodle’s Harriet and Dr. Shrunk.) But, we are missing just too many that are needed. Especially standing out, in addition to Brewster, is Kapp’n. I think this is so with Kapp’n, in particular, because game creators jettisoned working on an adventure island for a later online update (rather than establishing it with the March 20, 2020 release of “Animal Crossing: New Horizons”). Harv’s Island, quite frankly, disappoints. It only serves me for getting islander posters. If that island’s gates were taken down, we could explore an island which reveals it is where the NPCs live. We could be much more impressed with Harv’s Island.

This is a really good topic thread. And my thoughts obviously go beyond its specific focus. I am thinking of Brewster and beyond.

I'd like it back simply as another facility on the island for me and my villagers to enjoy. I like the idea of turning a completely abandoned remote island into a pleasant place to live, and a cafe just sounds very charming. I have plenty of room on my island too, so I'd really prefer it as a separate building

I think that all of the characters we've seen in past games should be in NH, just because...they're part of the franchise. But, I honestly don't care about The Roost itself. There isn't a lot of space on the island for new buildings...and I definitely don't need to try to squeeze another one in there. That said, if they add a cafe to the museum, or even give him a little coffee cart, I'd be happy with that.

Having a cafe space on my island would be super cute.

That's basically it because like you, I hardly ever played the "minigame" in NL.

I love being able to walk around with a cup of coffee for the ~cozy aesthetics~

Also he's a chill dude to have a chat with. I miss being able to go grab a hot drink and listen to KK have a jam session in the basement of the museum

I would personally prefer having a building added vs. it being part of the museum be optional. I know a lot of people really want a new building, but for me island planning is pretty stressful, so having to re-arrange stuff to make room wouldn't be my personal choice.

As for the rest, well.... idk, a LOT of the appeal of animal crossing, aside from the aesthetics, is making a little life in your town/city/island. The more things to do, and the more fleshed out, the better. On top of my own personal nostalgia, the lack of a little coffee shop makes it feel just a little more barren. And because of nostalgia, I really miss just being able to have another NPC to slowly open up to you, while getting your daily coffee. Plus, the mini game was fun and I think would be even better with how much more NPCs are travelling in comparison to NL. And maybe coffee could have a more functional aspect now, like boosting your run/chopping speed or filling your food slots?
