SO PPL KNOW, DO NOT CAUSE AN ARGUMENT IN THIS THREAD. IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE A MATURE DISCUSSION ABOUT PEOPLES OPINIONS WHETHER IT DIFFERS FROM YOU OR NOT. ALSO LET ME PUT A HUGE TRIGGER WARNING ABOUT WEIGHT HERE JUST IN CASE PPL MISSED IT. IF WEIGHT MAKES YOU UPSET, PLEASE DO NOT READ. THIS THREAD LITERALLY ISN'T MEANT TO OFFEND OR TRIGGER ANYONE, I'M JUST CURIOUS ABOUT YOUR OPINIONS.

I don't want to cause any arguments, I literally just want your opinions. As an extremely skinny girl (5'7" 94lbs because of thyroid problems) I've seen a lot of hatred towards "sticks" (myself included). I get asked almost everyday if I eat or not and I've heard multiple times that I look disgusting. I've also seen a lot of hatred towards bigger people. Both try to justify that one side receives more hatred and discrimination while the opposite receives more acceptance from others. I've also seen both skinny and bigger people lash out at each other which makes absolutely no sense because it just makes both people feel worse. I don't get it??? What's even the point?
Thoughts?

Everyone is different, so people need to get over it. Who is anyone to say what a person can or cannot be?

Mostly it's because of society's expectations of beauty I guess. Also kinda ableism because "haha ur fat u cant do this ____ because you're fat and not fit and ur lazy"

I'm very skinny but I don't get comments about my weight. I do see a skinnier girl than me who is kinda bony who gets asked all the time if she's anorexic.

Right? I really don't understand why people feel the need to be rude about weight. Idk I just want to know different viewpoints from other people who maybe disagree with me, you know?

there seems to be a general 'end hate by transferring the hate' attitude these days which is pretty bad
i guess people figured that overweight people were always discriminated against in the past and that the way to end this was to shift the abuse to the opposite end of the spectrum, which obviously helps nobody and just reinforces the whole weight issue

i personally just wish that weight wasn't such a focal point in society. even the people who talk about how weight doesn't matter and how people come in all shapes and sizes be they skinny or fat or somewhere in between, i mean, they're still talking about weight, you know? i could go my whole life without seeing the words 'weight', 'pounds' or 'calories' ever again and be happy that way
on that note i am going to politely remove myself from this thread

I don't really know why. Maybe because it looks unusual and "disgusting" to them. I was shamed because of this all my life, and I don't get why people feel the need to point it out. Mind your own business, jerks.

I just wish that people could be happy with their weight, you know? Whether people want to gain or lose or are perfectly happy and complacent is ok and none of anyones business!!! People are all pretty gnarly and I think it's obnoxious when I hear someone complain about another persons weight or make rude comments (ex: you'd be so pretty if you lost weight!).

It's ridiculous dude!!!!!!!! Everyone should shut up and support people and their decisions instead of shaming people and making them feel worse

I don't really know. I hear people always making fun of overweight people and saying they always smell like cheese doodles or some type of food. It's not a pretty sight >~<

I was teased in middle school for being a little on the chubby side :/

now im in high school and they tease me for being underweight, what does society want, exactly?

They get just as much hatred as everyone else (but on another note have you seen how terribly Photoshopped and disfigured that VS models look while modeling the VS CLOTHES??? They make it look like their arms are breaking!!?!?)

Hey I also have a Thyroid problem too which has caused me to be underweight- 5ft 6.5in and 40kg (13.8 BMI)- and I have to eat a lot due to my overactive metabolism. Though this really irritates one of my 'friends', she thinks she is overweight but she isn't (we were in the same biology class and we had to help weigh each other hence me knowing she is an average weight.) and gets really aggressive if I eat in front of her, cue storytime:
It was break at college and I was feeling really hungry so I grabbed a donut and an apple from the canteen, I go sit with my friends and start eating my donut. Then aggressive friend turns up and straightaway started yelling at me, saying how it wasn't fair for me to eat in front of her, etc. and then she marches up to me and slaps the donut out of my hands before storming off bawling her eyes out. After that event she has made my life hell if I eat anything in front of her, she doesn't care if anyone else eats near her, it's just me that seems to bother her...

So yeah, generally I try not to discriminate on people based on their weight but I do think that people need to realise that skinny people get discriminated against too- I got declined for a distressing job because the employer was worried I would steal food since I 'looked starved'. I would also like to point out that because of my thyroid problem it is unlikely that I'd ever be able to carry a baby until full term as it would cause both me and the baby severe health risks...

I don't think that's a true friend though???? Wow???? Your friend should be understanding that you have issues too and HAVE to eat. Idk dude, I was fired at Chickfila on my first day because I ended up getting really nervous because they put me on DRIVE THRU ON MEMORIAL DAY (when I was supposed to be front counter which was empty when the line was around the block for drive thru oN MY FIRST DAY MIND YOU AND THEY DIDNT EVEN DO TRAINING YET FOR ME AND THEY DIDNT EVEN HAVE MY FRIKKIN UNIFORM) and when I get nervous I shake so I had to squat down and they literally fired me because they thought I wasn't healthy enough for the job???????????

I have a thyroid disease as well. I'm 5'2 and 86 lbs but I'd rather be like 80 lbs. I like bones. I don't say anything rude to fat people but I sure as hell wouldn't want to be one.

But that's your preference dude. Some people like being bigger, some people like being smaller. I just can't stand when people treat others terribly because they're not living up to their expectations or they're feeling insecure so they have to project their insecurities onto others

The only thing I'd say, is that it's not right for people to say fat people are fine just the way they are. The thing is, fatness is unhealthy. I'm not saying fat people need to be bullied, or anything like that. But, they should be encouraged to help themselves. To me, it's like encouraging suicide.

Fat people can have perfectly normal levels, just as much as skinny or average people can. I know I'm lacking a ****load of vitamins. I don't know dude, I can see the same thing about overly skinny people like myself.

I agree with you. People today judge other not by personality but weight and look. Even my friend calling me "fat" just because I wasn't at their level of weight (not that fat but chubbier than them). And my family too despite they re fatter than me or thinner they just call me fat.

What I am saying is, society judge people by look, but for those who judge other by physical appearance have you ever judge yourself from the mirror? If you weren't that perfect then stop judging other whether they re skinny, obese, ugly, tall, short or whatever. No matter what people still have something to say about it. But don't care about them. We get upset because ourself agree with what they say. Look to the fact, are they that perfect themselves? My friend who call me fat have big butt even she have small waist, and some who call me fat don't even notice they re fat too? or way fatter?

People just don't realize mirror is create for them to see their own reflection.

Ugh I'm 96kg
I mean fat and thin doesn't matter and I have that mentality and I really don't judge people based on race, looks, the way thry dress, size etc. but even so I do have the need to get skinnier and I don't see the benefit??
In a decade or two 'fat eill be the new fad' where the rolls sort of switch were fat people are more accepted. History repeats itself.

Maybe so, but then of course skinny will be shamed like they used to in past generations (there used to be ads saying skinny people were nasty and selling weight gain supplements to get the "perfect body"). No one will ever truly be accepted.

Oh, I'm sure. I just wouldn't wanna see someone end up in a state they didn't wanna be in because of how much encouragement they got not to care about their weight.
