Why do I get spotpass notifications?

Hey!

Once in a while, from the Home Screen, the ACNL app will be shown with a blue circle next to it, which I believe, means that I received a spotpass notification for the game. It happens maybe once every two weeks.

Why do I get those? As far as I know, the only things you can get from spotpass in this game are:

-Gifts from the post office
-Gifts by letters
-Houses made by Nintendo in the Happy Home Showcase

Aren't all of these done? I thought DLC were diconstinued for this game. Can anyone explain this?

I have no hard proof on this, but for me, it also seemed to happen whenever someone had visited my dream town.

Sometimes I get one when my husband streetpasses me. He has new leaf too and I have streetpass turned off atm.

Yeah I read about this too a few years ago as well. I doesn't work in my case since I didn't share my dream adress anywhere.

In that case it must be a streetpass notification. The circle will be green!

It's blue and I get it when my husband shows up at my mii plaza. When I had streetpass on it was green.
