Why can't we see what's on a table?

So I've always hated that when you visit someone's town and they've put stuff for people to take on top of tables like a market, you can't see what things are. I've always wanted to have a shopping area but I've always found it annoying to have to pick stuff off the table first just to see what it is and then put everything back. But I just recently discovered that when you're just in your own town offline, you *can* see what things are when they're on tables! Soooo what gives? What's the purpose of not letting people who come over also see the same thing? Such a weird feature to remove for playing online..

I always thought it was weird to. I'm hoping they notice this for the next update and do something about it.

Just place items instead of dropping them?
Visitors can't pick up placed items :P I'm talking about dupe DIYs and other things you want to leave for visitors. If they're on a table, the visitor has to pick them up just to see what it is. And if it's not something they want, they have to go through the trouble of putting them back again.

RIGHT!? I was visiting my coworker's wife's town and she had some stands up filled with DIYs and told me to help myself. I had to grab them all and then put the dupes back. Really strange design choice.

Yeah seriously! Like it's one thing to not have the feature at all, but the fact that the feature is there but *removed* for multiplayer is just.. so strange..

oof i feel this - whenever i go to someone’s island that has a sort of ‘diy stall’, i always have to take the diys off of the stall to see what it is which is kind of annoying lmaoo ;v;

True, but the stalls only hold two items. :D

Yeah but people usually have multiple stalls up. I once went to someone doing a giveaway of *a lot* of furniture items and clothes. But when I got there, they were all on tables and stalls and stuff.. I just left lol. I think some people don't realize that visitors can't see it. Cuz when they are playing by themselves they can see it so there is no reason for them to believe this isn't a good way to do giveaways.

It takes just a couple seconds to do. It isn't that big of a deal, honestly.
It's an inconvenience that is unnecessary because the mechanic is already programmed in, but is removed where it matters most, which is online. I don't need to see what I put on my own tables since I already know. So why is that mechanic present during solo play? But when people make shops for visitors, it doesn't work for that, when the feature is most useful. Sure it isn't a big deal for maybe 1 or 2 stalls. But like I said, I've been to giveaway towns filled with stalls and tables full of items and you don't know what they are. I'm talking like 100 items. And when you're looking for just 1 or 2 things you need, it isn't just "a couple seconds" because you are picking up *every single item* and replacing them before you even find what you need. If the mechanic didn't already exist, fine. I can live without it. But finding out that it is something the game is programmed to do offline, but not online, is where my complaint lies.

I know already which one I don't have, so I don't learn to pick it up and try to learn it. Usually I don't even bother checking what's on tables... even worse when there are 2 DIYs on a stall, I grab both of them, place the first one on the stall and it lands in the middle lol

Lol omg placing the diy in the middle, that *always* happened to me XD yeah when I was still collecting DIYs, if I saw some on a table for free, I just did not bother lol. Too much effort for something that I most likely did not need. Maybe I'm just lazy lol

I wish they would fix this!

I visited an island recently where the player told me to help myself with any of the diy in the stalls. I couldn’t really read them. I felt that if I went around all of them, it would take too much time or be a burden to them, so just did what I went to do for a trade and kindly left. This was my first time doing this so I wasn’t aware I couldn’t read them. So I awkwardly bumped around the stalls trying to read (I felt a little awkward and like a weirdo).

Completely agree! Same with if you drop DIYs indoors... Visitors can't even see what they are.

i've got so many complaints with the dupe DIY situation lol.

nintendo is encouraging us to share DIYs with other users, but doesn't let us store them in any practical way and then punishes you via your island rating dropping if you drop too many on the ground. you can put them on objects, but then nobody can read what they are. like. ok dude. u rly want me to keep this item so i can give it away?

i really hope they'll give us like, a card catalog item or something that can hold DIYs because the QOL if you actually want to save DIYs (even just to give them away for free) is a garbage experience. big props to the folks running DIY stores because it is truly horrendous having tried it myself. i've tried staying organized but i just stress myself out and feel like i'm going to slow for the buyers. :~( imagine having a catalog you could a-z sort and pull out what you needed! dreamy.

Ugh, I've really been trying to figure out how to deal with my duplicate DIYs, but they haven't made it easy. If I drop them all over, my rating drops, which I don't want since I'm trying to get more lily of the valleys, I can leave them in my house, but then I need to have an empty room just for all the recipes etc. etc. Recently I fixed a small stall area, and my plan was to keep all my DIYs there, so people could easily access them, but no, first of all: my rating still dropped and secondly: the topic of this post. My friend had to go through all of them.

I just hope that they do something at this point, because I don't want to sell or throw away rarer recipes, but I can't play with my friends every day so I can give them away
