I don't understand why there are so many threads of people asking 'should I get this villager or that villager' etc, usually of the same personality. Why can't people decide for themselves, it's their game and surely which villager is 'cutest' etc is a matter of opinion?
Why do people try and get the villager that's most popular, why not just the one YOU like the look of?

I understand when people have a themed town and are asking which villager fits best, but otherwise I really do not see the point.

Ok rant over

I think it's just that they have multiple animals they like and can't decide for themselves which one they'd like more. So they ask people who have had those villagers to get their opinions of them.. Of course, it's better to find out for yourself, but idk I guess it's nice to have other people's opinions about the villager as well.

Idek man. Some people want a even town like me (At least 1 of each personality) and others want to stay popular. I have a even town but I've had Marshal, Merengue and Beau but they weren't my cup of tea.

I agree with you. My thoughts:

1. People care too much what other people think of their town
2. People create threads for the sake of creating threads, almost like a bad addiction
3. They're genuinely really indecisive, and don't have their own opinion
4. All of the above

For me, there are way to many villagers I really like. I hate the limit of 10.

Currently I am having poll to ask between Rolf, Rasher, Pietro, Muffy, Rooney, Vic, or Ken. All of them are villager I really like, and I have only one more available spot. So yeah. It is a really hard choice for me. So I wanted to gather some more opinions.

Plus I always ask for them to post a reason. I don't always go with the winner of a poll. At the end, I go with whichever one has had comments good enough to sway me towards getting that option.

I don't know, it just seems strange to me because as much as I'd want to believe they are all separate, different individuals, they are actually all programmed to be one of 8 personalities so I don't really see the reason to have opinions on them.
And yes I sometimes think people make the polls for the sake of it, for I've seen a few when they decide on a villager that was not the top voted one anyway

I can see the reason for opinions about appearance, a subjective category that people love to opine on, but not the tendency to rank, or think that one animal is a better uchi/smug/snooty etc. I always see threads where people rank animals as being the "best" of their personality type, which I don't understand. Fauna and Molly act the same, Chow and Fang act the same, etc. I genuinely find it confusing, but the last time I saw someone bring that up, people got really defensive about it. Which is okay, because I found that really funny. ^ ^

Yeah exactly, when people are like 'nah Fauna's way nicer than Goldie' or whatever, it's like NO. They act the same. xD

Yup, they do. I currently have three normals in my town (thanks, streetpass...) and yesterday, all three told me about their favorite book, "50 Ways to Get Out of a Pitfall." Unless there's a secret animal best sellers list out there that I don't know about, I'm going to assume that was programming in action. For the sake of enjoying the game, I'll assume the former, but we both know that it's actually the latter.

There was a thread about this before where I partook in this discussion.
Just like in real life, people take into account how something looks and try to label it with a personality. Even if the exact same thing or action is being said or done. Even if it does not match it's true personality or intentions.
We all do it whether we think we do or not. Or whether we want to or don't want to...

But anyways... to my point...

I had both Diana and Tipper in my town. I thought both were pretty and cute in their own way.
Both said the exact same things.
However, for some reason when Diana said some of the typical snooty comments they just didn't seem as harsh? Perhaps it is because I perceived her as a refined high class lady?
Where as Tipper I found as... well... Most of the time I just had the thought of "that *****" and thought she was stuck up and should get that stick out of her ass...
But it was the same exact thing being said? But was taken very differently when said by these two villagers?

Smug and Lazy can be another big personality thing when making comparisons...
I remember having Barold in my town... and somethings he said things his personality would say and with his appearance... just made me think "creepy old man" instead of "cute villager being sweet" compared to say Beau.

Anyways... That's my two cents on that part of the argument.

I've done the odd one in the past.. But now they're posted practically every day.. By the same person..

You get sick of seeing the same crap every day.. Just experience both and pick >.>

Yeah since it's all really down to appearance of the villager anyway, might as well pick the one you like the look of, not one that others like the look of or because of other people's nostalgia/reasons for liking said villager

I agree that it's kind of weird. Everyone has their own opinion on what they think looks nice/cool, their favourite animals, and so on. Not really sure why you would want to pick a villager based on their popularity. I think that visiting all the villagers you are considering in dream addresses is far more effective than asking people to decide for you. Some villagers I thought I would really like I just didn't click with in dream addresses because of their emotes and facial expressions, etc., so it's good to take a look in advance! :)

This is very true... I considered trying to get Merry back in my town... then remembered how the town tune played whenever I talked to her... It was awful sounding and hurt my ears even. =<

I do also admit that some villagers do actually look nicer in game than in just still photos of themselves ((like the wiki pages of them)) ... hamster villagers in general creep me out, but in game they don't look as creepy.

I had Ankha as a dream villager until I got her in my cycle town... even when she was happy or doing the skip-singing emotes she was always frowning. It bugged me.

ive made a thread like that before when im indecisive and tbh even when I dont pick the most popular choice on the poll that thread still helps me choose, like I couldnt pick a peppy dreamie but several of the comments on a thread I made helped me choose ruby even though the winner of the poll was felicity. I dont see why you would be so bothered by threads about animal crossing villagers being on a forum about animal crossing but ok
