Why can't I get a villager from my friend's void?

She accidentally voided Lopez, and she wants me to hold him for her via wi-fi move in. But when I visited her twice, I TTed 2 days forward each time and his plot isn't anywhere. We're planning on her having to visit me instead and see if that'll work. Lopez moved out today at 1:00 am or so, so he should probably be in the void, and she didn't interact with anyone else through wi-fi except for me.

And don't say "get another Lopez", this specific Lopez is both special to me and my friend.

I don't think it's always certain that you can receive a villager from the void. Perhaps that is what happened? I'm sorry if that's the case.

I think it's more likely that you'll get a voided villager once they start showing up on main street, and you talk to them. But I'm not completely sure.
