Why Are Villagers Becoming Slaves? o.o

"Jack, I want you to paint me like on of your French girls."

Honestly Emi's response was very well written and just as adequate as any other response in this thread. I don't think it comes across as angry or out of place. Everyone has a right to a different opinion and I agree that animal crossing is just a game including the villagers.
A few days ago people were harassing a girl for using the term being bipolar jokingly and how that affects actual people who are bipolar. I'm not going to go into a huge rant or anything but I think the term "slaves" and "slave trading" for villagers in a videogame are rather unnecessary. Nobody gets mad about pokemons being traded or sold...and plenty of pokemon players play AC so it's natural to want to sell/trade them.
As for controlling their house...I completely understand that. I am extremely picky about coordination and if a villager's house is full of nothing but shirts and fish then I'm surely going to takeover. The point is that it increases my personal value of gameplay and that's all that matters for anyone playing whether it's keeping up their house, making them change shirts, selling, trading, etc. People can't freak out about this thread going off the rails because it is a sensitive topic and it apparently always will be.

Some people might feel accomplished when they buy a villager, or they just really want it.
Just a few thoughts to why. Just like how people buy stuff in real life.

I feel very strongly that freedom of speech is important and if somebody feels that trading villagers reminds them of "slavery" then they should be able to use the word. Nobody should be able to force somebody or take it upon themselves to tells other how to phrase things or word things.

Maybe I'm old and impatient...but I am so freaking tired of people for the last 20 years or so trying to make everybody walk on eggshells for fear of "offending" someone.

I sometimes feel that the selling of villagers is akin to slavery. Yes, I said it. I'll continue if I want to. Sheesh.

Usually I'm very patient but I won't tolerate somebody telling me how to speak.

Peace,

Ankhes

Trading doesn't remind me in the slightest of slavery the villagers leave of their own free will and are picked up by others of their own free will. The villagers do what they want when they want and only ask for your input. Granted they will do what you say, but they did ask for your opinion. The villagers ask you for favors that you can refuse, and reward you if you do them favors. The only part of the game you could akin to slavery is the player selling the villager, but even then the villager doesn't know he's being sold and isn't cuffed or shackled. You have a right to free speech and so do i that's whats so great about the internet. You can believe in being as offensive as you like, and i can believe in being as courteous as possible. #sorrynotsorry :p

Slavery is forcing another being to do what you want, when you want and how you want

Last time I checked, my villagers live like kings and queens because they take their mayor and make them give up furniture, food, fish, bugs and buy -sometimes forged- paintings.

Even after Justin posts and says he has warnings to hand out, you still have to try and continue this? Seriously?

Continuing? No. Clarifying something, yes. The first sentence was about it, do you see me writing some giant essay on it? No. Then please, do learn as to when someone is actually trying to continue a problem, instead of doing what you're doing and beating the dead horse by trying to begin another.
