Why all the hate on the new personalities?

I love the smugs and uchi. smugs are my favorite personality.

a lot of people generally don't like uchi for some reason because they don't have those "cutesy" designs

Basically, no one ever thinks how being tomboyish relates to being a Big Sister. Most sisters nowadays are mostly going to parties with friends, etc. While some sisters who come from poor families are forced to act like a boy in order to defend their siblings, since they are the eldest sisters. Everybody fails to see the reason why they act tomboyish, and kinda makes me sad.

I know there are reasons behind it most of the time, but it still doesn't the fact. They have quite a few tomboyish traits.

A legit personality? Not so sure about that... The definition of a tomgirl is "a girl who exhibits characteristics or behaviors considered typical of a boy, including wearing masculine clothing and engaging in games and activities that are physical in nature and are considered in many cultures to be the domain of boys".

Basically, a tomgirl is a girl that society feels boys should do. Ex. Run around and play sports (games and activities that are physical in nature). Honestly, anyone can play sports if they want to. You're not a special sort of girl if you do things different than society says.

But uchi are protective and caring of the player. For example, they give them medicine when the player is stung by bees. They also threaten to hurt anyone that tries to harm the player, making them big sister-like in my opinion.
That last part was the part I'm talking about. How Big Sisters are kinda Tom Boyish due to the fact that most bullies who harm their siblings are boys,so uchis need to act tomboyish to defend the player/sibling from harm.

As basically everyone else has said, I don't think a lot of people hate Smugs. It's one of my personal favorites; most of the villagers have great designs and their really sweet. <3

I'd like Uchis more if they had better designs. I posted on the topic here today that has you list your top three villagers of every personailty, and I struggled to find a third villager I liked from the Uchis. I eventually chose Frita, who I don't even like that much. :x I'm hoping they make so new Uchi villagers in the next installment of Animal Crossing, they'll probably get more love then.

(...all big sisters are "tomboys"? "Tomboys" are better than big sisters? A "tomboy" can be a big sister!?)

Anyways, thought of another good argument on why I dislike the term tomboy...

So, I wear jeans in real life. I feel uncomfortable wearing skirts. I'm alright with violence, can take some gore (in moderation) and getting dirty. That's means I'm a tomboy!

Actually, wait. I like dresses, I just don't like to wear them. I like designing fashion and I like cute things. I'm also okay with makeup. That means I'm a girly girl, right?

So what am I, a girly girl or a tomboy!? Neither! I'm just a girl is all. And that's why I hate the word tomboy (and girly girl for that matter). You can't define someone with a single word and say that just because they like a certain thing, they must act/are a certain thing... I suppose.

Anyways, we're supposed to be talking about Animal Crossing. I really do like the Smug and Uchi types of villagers. They're pretty unique. I have Jacques and Paula in my town right now, and I really do like them both.

I am trying to say a tomboy is a personality, and it is better than just saying they are a big sister. There is no doubt that a tomboy is a legit personality, just like goths and emos (Shudder. I hate emos!). Also I hate how people always think goths and emos are the same thing.

I get it. I'll still have to disagree with you though.

I already argued that I think tomboy isn't a real personality, but just a label. I think "goth", "sissy" and "emo" are all labels too. I wouldn't call them personalities, but just stereotypes really.

And when you say "it's better than calling them a big sister", you sound like you're implying that all big sisters are tomboys... Probably not what you meant, but it just sounds that way.

I'll just end on a note than I still think the word "tomboy" is a label created by gender roles yadda yadda yadda soceity sucks... I'll just use tough girl instead.

Wow, by your logic, there is no such thing as a personality.

I normally don't like the uchis, but I love Mira, Phoebe and Cherry. They're all so awesome! But, I honestly don't like the rest of them. Smugs are frickin great though.

What do you mean? That doesn't make much sense at all.

What I'm trying to say is, for example, you aren't a tomboy just because you act tough. It's your personality and you shouldn't be given a label or stereotype for acting as you are.

I don't think you understand what I'm saying, are you? :P

Well you said things like goths aren't a personality either, when in fact, they ARE. Tomboys, Goths, Emos (shudder) , true they can portrayed as stereotypes in some forms of media, they are still in fact personalities.

I have to disagree. You can't use a single word (like tomboy, prep, etc) to describe a personality. Uchis are tough, brash, and solve things by fighting but they're also kind and care about the player character. This seems less "tomboy" to me and more of "tough but nice" since tomboy ONLY describes the fact that they're tough and like to do things that are usually male-dominated (like fighting) and not any other part of their personality.

You are contradicting yourself. "Tough girl" and "tomboy"are interchangeable so how can it be a "label" if it means basically the same thing? :3 Even if it is a label it would be a correct one based on what you just said.

Is a tomboy not a tough girl and is a tough girl not a tomboy? Who cares if we call them spongebob as long as everyone knows what the meaning is. This game is taken way too seriously sometimes honestly >.>
