Why all the hate on the new personalities?

Why is it that the the new Smug and Uchi (or Tomboy as I prefer to call them) personalities get so much hate? They are actually really good, and likable ones. In fact I don't dislike ANY of them. True I like some more than others, and Jock is only my least favorite due to my lack of interest in sports.

I think the reason people hate them are just because they are new, and some villagers were changed. I think the people's hate of them goes like this "Oh no! Change! I hate change! Why do things have to change? Things should always be the same." I really am starting to think that is why people don't like them, just because they are new. (Besides a tomboyish personality is the best personality for a girl, with goths as a close second!)

People hate on smug personalities? *looks at popular villager list* hmm well marshal is #1 and he's a smug soo...and I know of at least 5 that are really popular so I'm not sure where you are getting that information from. The uchi on the other hand just aren't that good of a personality imo, it just seems more of a blend of personalities than a unique one. Also the character designs on most of them are just horrendous to me :3

I love my Marshal, I don't see any real smug hate.
I would love uchis if they came up with a design for one I actually liked...

I have looked around on the site quie a bit, and it seems that even though the boring marshmallow (The only cute Marshmallow is Rarity!) is ranked at #1, a majority of people hate Smugs and Tomboys.

While they do have some traits of the other female personalities, Tomboys also have a bit of a 'tough girl' added in as well, which is unique among the female ones.

I think some people don't like them because these personalities are not as well defined as the others.When most people hear Jock,Peppy,Lazy,Cranky,Snooty and Normal,they know pretty much what they're getting.But Smug?Generally,someone who's considered to be smug in real life is a bit conceited and not particularly well-liked.Uchi?What the heck is that?They really should have called them Tomboy for the North American version of New Leaf.Players would have had a much easier time of relating to these villagers and what they're about if they had been called Tomboys.The Uchi "big sister" concept doesn't really translate well to Western society.

I love all the personalities （＾∇＾）however my least favorite would actually be snooty. They're always so mean to me （；＿；）
Phoebe used to ALWAYS give me fake paintings for almost 10 thousand bells。 and they're so mean to the other villagers. Gwen used to get in fights with Beau and Katt a lot(~_~

er perhaps they just...do not? 8'D I don't see a notable amount of hate for the two. Many people consider themselves "uchi" and quite a few top tiers are smug.

I don't dislike any personalities as of now (the more the better <3) but if you're looking for specific reasons, I can pull out a few for any personality. For instance...

Smugs can generally be:
- manipulative
- uncomfortable/cringe (it's cute in game but having someone hit on you as hard as they do can be pretty yech)
- egotistical to the point of a tiny bit delusional

Uchis can be:
- too brassy and unnecessarily "loud"
- blunt to the point of rude
- like I said once, can seem to be the worst parts of snooty and peppy mixed together. not going to get into the adjectives for that haha but this can also make them very bland to some people, like they don't stand out very much.


But smugs can also be:
- sweet and a fun personality to have around when you feel down
- pretty chill about things
- fabulous

and uchis can be:
- fabulous in a BA way
- actually very kindhearted and uplifting
- strong and a model personality (they seem to have their priorities in order)


It just depends on how you weigh the pros and cons. I wouldn't think people would dislike personalities just because they are new. Players of games always want more variety.

I see a lot of ppl on these forums have several smugs as listed dreamies including: Marshal, Julian, Chadder, Eugene, Pietro and Zell just to name a few. I think you might just have been looking in the wrong places or it's just coincidental that when you were searching around, you found the majority of ppl hating on smugs.

I don't like the name smug. To be smug means to have pride in your achievements... I haven't seen much of that with the smug neighbors I've had. They're more flirtatious and gentlemen-like than smug if you ask me. They're cool though.

Basically, no one ever thinks how being tomboyish relates to being a Big Sister. Most sisters nowadays are mostly going to parties with friends,etc. While some sisters who come from poor families are forced to act like a boy in order to defend their siblings,since they are the eldest sisters. Everybody fails to see the reason why they act tomboyish,and kinda makes me sad.

I personally like both of the new personalities. Uchi less so just because they can seem rude and brash sometimes, but they're still lovable. And I haven't really seen any hate towards either of the new personalities.

A legit personality? Not so sure about that... The definition of a tomgirl is "a girl who exhibits characteristics or behaviors considered typical of a boy, including wearing masculine clothing and engaging in games and activities that are physical in nature and are considered in many cultures to be the domain of boys".

Basically, a tomgirl is a girl that society feels boys should do. Ex. Run around and play sports (games and activities that are physical in nature). Honestly, anyone can play sports if they want to. You're not a special sort of girl if you do things different than society says.

But uchi are protective and caring of the player. For example, they give them medicine when the player is stung by bees. They also threaten to hurt anyone that tries to harm the player, making them big sister-like in my opinion.
