The villagers that are shortest walking distance, however, are Bangle and Cole. They're pretty cool.

Marina lives closest to me. She to my right but still a bit away. My other characters are my closest neighbors. One lives directly above and another directly below.

I have the houses lined up like a tiny neighborhood on the east part of my town. I live somewhere on the south near the beach. You could say the one closest to me is June with the river separating our houses.

I had two neighbors when I started, and it just so happened that the two villagers I don't want live the closest to me. The game knows...
