Splatoon Who do you play league battle with?

So...I have no friends that have a switch AND play Splatoon...So, I am curious...Who does everyone league up with? Do I need to join a match-making service?

No one at this stage...but hoping to find some people. I really need someone in a timezone similar to mine though which is very difficult to find Maybe join a few Discord groups and meet more people that will hopefully be able to play.
