which would you prefer? (new shops/buildings)

i kinda like the idea of a separate shopping center! i really enjoyed it during city folk, and if they do happen to go with that route, i hope they install a abd app or even bring back those debt cards so people don't have to go back and forth if they don't have enough bells. i lowkey don't have enough space on my island for more than 2 more buildings so i rather see a shopping center than new buildings.

oooh I’d love the debt card back!!

hmm depends on what building exactly
I definitely want the cafe on my island but I'd be fine with for example dream suite or katrina being on another one

I feel this! the cafe is a natural fit especially if it’s going in the museum as rumoured but the other stores have never fitted in the main town/island IMO

I’d love more buildings on my Island because structures allow me to develop the “town” feel I’m partially going for. Two three buildings just isn’t quite enough to create a bustling center imo.

However, while space isn’t a concern for me at all, the appearance of future buildings definitely is. If we get new buildings—or new upgrades for buildings—I hope that their exteriors either fit in with the current styles or are customizable.

I think I'd find the idea of using the airport to get to a shopping centre really exciting; the island is great but can be quite claustrophobic at times. You could possibly find other villagers in the shopping centre, or just see more animals to talk to but not invite back. Here would be my ideas, just off the top of my head:

-You wouldn't be able to bring things like sharp tools or bugs or fish into a shopping centre! You have to leave them at home.

-Flick and CJ would have their own pet shop! Because of the reason above, you can't sell them anything, to encourage you to wait until they visit your island; however, you CAN buy lots of stuff from them! They would sell things like objects such as big tanks for your fish, a MASSIVE tank if you want to put all your pet fish together (ditto for the bugs), little ornaments to put in the tanks/cages. They also sell bait that you can buy (you can't buy bait from Timmy and Tommy, you HAVE to buy it from CJ) or maybe an object or bait that would encourage rare bugs out of the earth (again, you have to buy this from Flick). You can also buy better fishing rods and nets, as well as look at calenders to see when the next Fishing/Bug Tourney is. You can even tell Flick and CJ what day you would like them to visit your island and they'll check it in their calender!

-Kicks would have his own shop, as well as Shampoodle. Not much to say about that, except that Kicks now has the space to offer a far wider range of shoes and bags, as well as maybe other accessories. Maybe he would also offer you the chance to make your own bag!

-A cinema! Maybe this is wishful thinking but could it have been foreshadowed in one of the very early New Horizons trailers? If anyone ever played Club Penguin, I'm thinking of something like The Night of The Living Sled, a selection of tiny films the developers have made beforehand; it was a big thing in Club Pengiin to go and watch it with your friends and pretend to buy popcorn and drinks, even though it was only like 30 seconds long. OR MAYBE it could even showcase the films you've made on Harv's Island, and if you have Nintendo Switch Online, you can see films other players have made if they make it public!

-A supermarket, where you can buy ingredients for cooking! I'm not talking about getting rid of the farming aspect altogether, you need to grow and forage your own *food*, but the supermarket lets you buy harder to find naturally things like sugar, salt, etc. Maybe even cooking supplies are sold there for quite high prices, like pots and pans, and certain recipes are unlocked once you have bought all the cooking supplies needed to make them!

-An art studio, where you can more easily look for *paintings and canvases* specifically that other players have created and made available for public use

-Digby and Lottie now work together at the Happy Home Academy! They can offer more extensive home options, like more fencing, and more outdoor customisations. They can also offer exterior furniture that hasn't been seen before.

That's it off the top of my head....I've made myself far too excited now.

I'd prefer new buildings on my own island. I know some people would probably prefer them elsewhere due to their island design, but if they're on our own island it's less loading screens to get to it and is overall more convenient.

omg!! yes to all of these ;-; maybe Franklin or one of his relatives could work at the supermarket!

I miss the shopping center both because it gave you a lot more room to decorate and because it was a cool gathering place. I loved seeing animals who had moved out in the plaza in NL. I loved stumbling into Resetti’s lair in CF. The spaces felt alive and added more to the world.

but I could see how it could clash with the idea of NH, that you’re on a previously deserted island and isolated from the world. It was weirder in other games to think that a landlocked town had nothing around it when that’s kind of the point of NH.

I'd rather have everything on my island but I'm starting to run out of space to put things.

I'd love to have a city folk-style shopping thing! maybe you can have so many on another island and so many on your island? as much as I want all the shops on my island I'm running out of space :p

As much as it would be more convenient to not have to redesign portions of my island, I think the loading screens would get to me after a while lol. Anytime you want to go visit a shop on the separate island, you'll have to go through the same old slow dodo airlines animation. So I would prefer they're either additions to previous shops or standalone shops on my island.

I'm honestly sitting between both options! In general, I just would love more shops, I wouldn't really mind where they were though. On island means easier access and will help me add more to the empty areas to my island, but I also loved the feel of main-street on new leaf. I'm happy either way!

I'd like to see Kicks, Label, Sahara, and Leif rolled into Nook's/Able Sisters. This would dramatically cut back on the NPC cycle, meaning we'd get Redd, Gulliver, CJ, and Flick one day a week. As it is now, Redd twice a month is way too infrequent.

That leads me to my answer to your question, which is to keep all shops local, and allow for expansion.

I'd like more buildings on the island. There is a lot of blank unused space on my island. I know people have filled up their islands, but that's usually through "micro environments" which feature a lot of things like libraries, shops and the like which do not belong outdoors and just do not jive with me, so I'd like more buildings so my island can fill out.

I like both ideas - especially if the "city" area was more of a hub where you could go with other players. Especially if you could do trades there, lol.

I'd prefer having to take a plane and going to a separate island with all the shops in it, sort of like City Folk. I'd much rather have to go through a short loading screen than being overwhelmed with more than 10 buildings to place around my island. The Café I can understand, but things like the Dream Suite that I wouldn't use daily should be on a separate island imo.

Then again, I really like their approach of having weekly traveling merchants! Sure, having to wait a week to see Leif again when you need shrubs can get annoying, but I find it keeps me engaged and wanting to play every day. I think Harriet and Katrina could definitely be added as traveling merchants.

I really loved the shopping district in NL ! It would be nice to get something similar to return.
