Did you enjoy Donkey Kong Country? If so, you could buy 2 or 3, they are even better in my opinion.

If you're getting a wiiware game get Megaman 9 or World of goo.

If you're getting a virtual console game, I really can't recommend anything that I haven't played so I'll give you a list of some classics I've played and enjoyed:

Genesis / Mega drive:
Sonic 2
Wonder Boy in monster world

Don't get sonic 3 because you don't get the Kuckles expansion with it, which makes the game a lot shorter.

Nes:
Megaman 2
Super Mario Bros (or get the lost levels)
Super mario bros 3
The legend of Zelda
Punch out

Snes:
Super Mario World
Zelda: A link to the past
Contra III: The alien wars/Super Probotector : Alien Rebels (Very hard game)

N64:
Pretty much all the titles that are on VC at the moment, Pokemon Snap lets you put one picture per day onto the Wii message board.
