It used to be Frank who was right behind my house. He was there from when I started my town, so I was lucky I managed to squeeze my house in the spot it is (close to the waterfall.)
Now it's a tie between Bam and Punchy who are both 10 squares behind me, and right next to each other. There are no other villagers close by after them, unless you count villagers houses separated by the river, in which case Tia is the closest after Bam and Punchy.
Tex lives just out of eyesight from my house, on the other side of a path. I love that he's my closest neighbour, we always meet up on the bridge that's between our houses <3
Hans lives right next door to me on my right. He moved in two days after me so this was consequential. He's usually the first ping I get. Ruby who was a starter is also close to my left
Marshall decided he wanted to live like two blocks behind my house for some reason, but Pecan is right next to him, albeit a tiny bit further back. Initially, Francine had plotted there way back when I first started the town (lol I say "way back" but it was only a month ago or so) and I just thought it was a snooty thing, wanting to be all up in my business - but when Marshall followed suit and was even closer? Man, I dunno.
Caroline moved in a few squares to my right, sandwiching herself between my house and ReTail, when I had her. It was before Pecan or Marshal had arrived so she was my lone squirrel neighbor and she was always bopping around outside my place whenever I loaded up the game and stepped out into the world~ so she was the first person I'd talk to, unless one of those rare occasions struck and she was hiding away in her house. Miss that gal.
I know a lot of people prefer their houses to be a set amount of space away from all the other villagers, or even secluded completely, but I honestly love having a bunch near me. My house is right near my plaza and ReTail as well, so there's always someone walking around nearby, I love it.
My mayor's house is pretty far removed, but the closest villager would either be Walt (if we're talking closest by walking distance) or Deli (if we're just going by map proximity ? he's across the river from my house, but it takes longer to get to Deli than Walt because of bridge placement.)
marshal on the left and beau on the right; for the longest time the patch right in front of my house was bare from visiting those two until I planted some flowers and did some TT...
Drago technically lives the closest... but i have a nice spacious front yard (no back as I'm pressed up against the railroad) so he's no where near me! Tangy is my favorite, but she went across town to have the biggest space to herself
