Which causes more lag - custom designs or furniture?

The little food street/alley on my island lags my game to the point that I just avoid the whole area and I'm looking for ways to fix it a little.

I have a few ramen stalls that I decorated with ramen-looking custom designed hats and was thinking of replacing them with the noodles we got for new years but I was wondering if this would make the lag better or worse anyone have any experience in this?

From my experience, furniture. But I have more furniture on my island then anything else

It's hard to pinpoint exactly. Try testing by replacing the hats with ramen bowls to see if it makes a difference? Sorry I can't be of more help!

Anecdotally I always seem to get most lagging issues from custom designs (and flower fields)
Removing the 'walls' (simple panels with custom designs on) did seem to help my fairground area stop lagging as much - I was also avoiding the whole area for a while Good luck, I hope you find something that works

Thanks for the input everyone! I'm going to go ahead and replace the custom design food with the new years food and see if that helps
