Where is everyone?

I've been playing a lot less. You can only play the same thing for so long before either getting bored or needing a break.

I've mostly been busy with online meetings and whatnot! As the world starts to open up more I think people are playing NH less! (At least that's the case for me! I can actually like, kind of do stuff now)

The one thing I'm STILL irritated with them for is not giving us holidays. If I wanna play Halloween in July, I should be able to. I was able to in every other game and now it's like they've decided they're against time travelling or something... despite it being a mechanic in literally every. single. Animal Crossing game to date. They've apparently decided to appeal to the holier than thou "I play this game more ethically than you because I don't time travel" crowd.
(note- I'm not talking about people who don't time travel, that's fine. Play how you want! I'm talking about the ones who don't time travel and berate those who do.)
I can't speak authoritatively on what the definition of a "mechanic" in a video game is, but I always thought calling something a mechanic implied the game expects and encourages the player to do it/live with it as part of the game's intended experience. I would consider the real-time aspect of AC a core mechanic; the ability to work around it (TT) is an inevitable option that including an adjustable real-time clock necessarily creates, but the game never encourages or expects you to TT, nor does it reward you for doing so, other than being able to benefit from special items before everyone else. Shops open and close at set hours, fossils and weeds and trees and building projects all occur over periods of days, fruit grows back every 3 days - none of these things make any sense if Nintendo wants people to TT as part of the intended AC experience. (Nintendo does acknowledge some people play this way, hence turnips rotting if you TT backwards.)

I don't think TTing is a game mechanic any more than map resetting, using NMTs as currency or the duping glitch is. We invented those styles of play, not Nintendo. I don't think Nintendo should have to make any of those methods easier/more fun for us when it's not how they designed the game to be played.

I was playing to several (many) hours everyday as I was not working, but now I'm studying and just have less time.
Sometimes I don't get to have a look on here until 11pm my time.

This is happening to me too! I could see my friends (with proper distancing measures) or play ACNH AGAIN. Which would I choose?

I only have 90 hours in the game but most people I know have logged thousands of hours. No wonder they're bored! I would be too!

Activity usually increases a ton right before and after a release, and then it will decrease going forward. Updates should keep it from getting too low for a while. Ultimately, the amount of play a game gets right after release isn’t sustainable - the hype dies down and people leave, it’s just the way it goes.

dead game
three months one update
13.41 million units sold
born to grind world a muck

Legit though I find New Horizons boring. I never wanted the crafting system, at the very least when it comes to the tools. My favorite part of AC games was honestly just wasting the days away fishing and bug catching. Then with New Leaf it was doing that with friends or going to the island to goof around with island games while we talked. New Horizons is essentially me grumbling about needing to make more tools after about twenty minutes or getting a tour of a friend’s island like once

You can tour my island twice, that’ll fix it

Think a lot of people are now going back to work, that and more stuff is opening up again. I didn't spend too much time playing the game this weekend, as football (soccer) is back on TV.

We might seen an increase in activity when v1.3.0 drops, hopefully in July.

Am I the only one who has been noticing the activity here slowing down?
I'm having trouble trading and finding islands open with Redd and Celeste, for an example...
Have people moved to other platforms? Or have you just been playing the game a lot less?
It makes me sad because I don't use nookazon or any other place

You can add me if you want, but be warned Redd and Celeste hardly ever visit me.

Yeah, the decrease in traffic was a shock to me because I took a break from trading/the forum overall for a little more than two weeks, and I was surprised how slow Nook's Cranny is moving lately. When I left, the first page of Nook's Cranny was all posts that were as recent as ~10 minutes or so. Now threads don't move from the first page for 30 minutes to an hour.

I imagine there will be some people who come back when a new update drops. As far as Nook's Cranny goes, I don't know if that will get any more active unless some new furniture sets/other objects to collect are added to the game.

You know you can buy tools right? I don't even remember the last time I crafted something...

I can but I don’t like that any better. Yes I know, first world problems.
I agree with you. It's such a pain to make sure you never run out of a tool when on another island. My least favourite thing about the game.

School & work are going back to normal after quarantine so I can see why everyone is playing less. When it was first released, there's a lot of hype so I'm not surprised.

I continue to play, but I've slowed down compared to previous weeks. It's become more like previous AC to me: log in to get my fossils (missing 1, lol), talk to my villagers, get them some gifts, buy things I'm interested in Nooks/Ables, catch bugs/fish and just chilling. I know I want to edit part of my island, but I'm not ready to embark on that task just yet as I know it'll take me some time and energy, and I've been pretty busy with work, tbh.

I've notice this too, so I've moved to Nookazon for trades even though I was reluctant at first, that has been semi-slow as well though (at least all the scammers have moved on to different games). Activity will likely pick back up when the next big update drops.

School, work, new games, new updates, these are all factors. Quarantine life is no more, normalcy is back, so less time to play.

I think the slow down for New Horizons feels a lot more noticeable because people went so crazy over it. A lot of people jumped into the game full force (thanks to the quarantine) and got burnt out quick as a result. I got the game in May and haven't even really touched terraforming or decorating my Island. I've been focused mostly on the Museum and which villagers I want.

Personally, I don't feel burnt out at all and still enjoying the game loads! I never thought I would actually get to play the new Animal Crossing, because I didn't have money for a switch. I think it helps me to look past the flaws of the game and just appreciate the fact I get to play it at all.

I'm sure activity will pick back up when more updates release and people get tired of other games.

I’ve noticed it too, it makes me sad because I liked having so many people play the game, there was more posts about villagers crafting, Celeste, etc. I don’t even use the forums as much after I noticed it, I’ve switched to Nookazon now because there’s more people there.
