Where does villager furniture go??

I've had a few villagers move in with awesome furniture, wallpaper, flooring. I tried visiting repeatedly and writing letters. After just a week or so upon visiting their house, it's gone. They've trashed everything. It's not in retail so where is it?

They have an imaginary "inventory".

I was wondering this too, because Marshal replaced his Sloppy Chair and I'd like to get my hands on it. Just need to find out what he did with it lol.

They go to you. Sometimes.

Either they can end up in retail, or they'll give it to you. The easiest way to get an item from a villagers house is to send them letters with items right when they move in and they should end up in retail. If you wait too long to do this they'll probably end up doing other things with the items as they interact with you and other characters

All I ever get is toilets or trash cans!! They're holding out on me.

I made Poncho buy a music box I made in Re-Tail, but when I visited his house, it wasn't there, probably because he didn't have a table to put it on. So I sent him a lemon table and when I visited his house the next day, the music box was on the table!
So yeah, they have an imaginary inventory.

Whenever I get a new villager I check out their place asap to see if they have anything good. Hasn't done me any good so far cause I can't get them to sell me the things I want. Hans has two camper items and Mira has a Spherical radar and they refuse to part with any of them. Just my typical luck :/

Sometimes their items go to Re-Tail (I had Genji put his item in Re-Tail) and sometimes when you give villagers a piece of furniture, they might end up in Re-Tail as well.
Or they could ping you and tell you that they want to sell you their items :3

Plus, if a villager asks if you want something of their possession, they will never part with their original furniture pieces
