When villagers give you items, is it completely random?

So I had a villager randomly give me a throne today in exchange for delivering an item to another villager. The throne is worth 800,000 bells in Tom Nook?s catalog! I really didn?t expect it to come from a simple task.
So.. when a villager gives you an item as a reward, is it a completely random item from the catalog, excluding unorderables?
Or.. the second option is that somehow they got it from Ankha?s house in my town and she traded it out to a different villager (Quillson) before trading it to me?
I?m just wondering if it?s possible to get items like that from doing simple tasks from villagers, or if items like that only come by when a villager has a more expensive item in their house automatically, and then they look to trade it out and start passing it around town?

I think it's a little bit of both. Sometimes it will be random but then sometimes it will be something that they use to have in their house or something that someone else had in their house. I think the villagers have small inventory pouches we can't see.

Also damn, I didn't know the throne was that much. Elvis gave me his.

Actually yes. They can give either random items or items from other villager's houses or their own. I've had both happened to me a couple of times. Mostly though the items are random. I got both a throne and a white katana from my villagers and both those items are a really expensive.

I figured as much, but I?ve never had a villager give me an item as expensive as the throne before. Initially I though ?Oh the throne can?t be that much since a villager willingly handed it to me,? I looked at the price in the catalog and I was shocked! Because I almost sold it to make space

I thought so, I really just wanna know if it?s worth doing tasks for villagers to randomly get a cool item or something I wanted instead of having to trade for it. But I do have Ankha in my town and she has a lot of nice stuff in her home. This is the first time a villager has given me something that nice

i noticed this mainly happens when you give them items they don't particularly care for. in my first town, i gave Kabuki a ninja sword and because it fit his style, he kept it for so long. other times if i give a villager something random, they'll just give it back to me the next day

i noticed this mainly happens when you give them items they don't particularly care for. in my first town, i gave Kabuki a ninja sword and because it fit his style, he kept it for so long. other times if i give a villager something random, they'll just give it back to me the next day

Yeah I think they do have preferences, I gave Katt a hamster cage thinking it would look so cool in her home and she replaced it and gave it back to me the next day!

Yes really. I'm not suspicious though. I'm sure they're on purpose, 'cause Filbert also puts it in the mail too, saying "I think this is very like you" or something along those lines. =_=;
