When did you first get into Animal Crossing?

I started off when Wild World released; it was suggested to my sister and I from an employee at the store we so often frequented, GameCrazy. I hadn't played the GameCube version until at least a year or two past playing WW, but I thought the GC version was super cute/fun when I tried it for the first time.
