What made me get another copy was that I wanted a new town and new villagers. I wanted to experience something new. I also was getting a bit tired of my main town and doing the same chores over and over again and even though I would be doing the same things in my second town (which kinda made me regret having a second copy but everything was better afterwards.) at least having a new town layout with other villagers I wanted was bearable. I had money for the second copy, I was going to use it on something else but the idea of buying another copy popped into mind and though wasting the money for it was worth it but guess what I didn't have to waste a penny on my second copy since my friend gave his copy which obviously was even better, waiting for it to arrive in my hands was not cool though. The bad thing about having another copy though is transferring items when you only have one 3ds. You're going to have to find a reliable person to trust that won't mind using their time for you. So honestly having another 3ds would be great. I even thought about getting another 3ds but I need the money lol. Good luck on your decision on the second town!

I have two towns. I got the second town about 9 mths into playing; partly because I wanted a town to do a little cycling and spawn weeds (weed badge), and partly because I wanted to try some different things with designing a new town. Which I couldn't really do with my main town.
We already had two 3DS's, so I get the added benefits of being able to make money more easily and having extra storage. Plus it helps towards that gold catalog badge (so close!) and with saving accidentally moving villagers/getting new ones.
I now happily play them both, though my main still gets a little more love. The secondary town is largely a show town, where as my main has all the badges/full encyclopedia/full museum etc etc (ie. my progress).
I'm actually thinking of getting a third now, so I can actually having the cycling/weed ridden town I initially intended. xD
