What's your recommendation

On the island for the bugs that make a lot for selling... How many trees do you keep? I have 5

I just chop down 2 of my normal trees in the middle and leave the rest. But I don't farm the island or anything. I would have thought 5 would be pretty good for beetle farming though.

I cut all but two palms ...every bush is gone too...if you want to catch beetles that is the best way...you can always replant later when you have enough bells!

I'll keep three palm trees making a triangle, and I'll just keep two in the middle.

That's enough. I'll take my time to scare wharf roaches and tiger beetles.

I would say it depends on how you play -- if you play in the evening you probably want nothing but palm trees. But if you play later keep some of the exotic fruit trees -- giant stags and rainbow stags spawn on them a lot (for me anyway), which are worth more than most of the palm tree beetles.

I like my island to look nice, so I have 6 palm trees and 4 fruit trees. I would say a quick nighttime trip to the island is worth at least 300k for me with that set up.

I cut down the first two next to the gyroid since they never spawn and the ones at the curve of the island since it was easier to scare those away. Left the center trees since they spawn quickly and are easier to sneak up on and catch. For me anyway. Left the palms on the right side.

with just my two I am done catching beetles within a half hour to 45 minutes TOPS and make at least 350K - 450K I only keep the ones that are 8k or higher. I also catch sharks when they show up.

they spawn quite a bit but if they don't I just run around a half circle then through the center to scare off warf roaches, hermit crabs and tiger beetles...and boom the palms spawn. I only kept one palm on each side down toward the bottom...those were the ones that spawned the most when all my trees were still there. Once I have made the amount of bells I am happy with and paid everything off I will replant the island the way I want it.

yep exactly...they are far enough apart from each other and I can run down the center grass and not scare anything (on the palm trees) away. Everything else on the island is gone...for now.

Keep one tree in the middle and cut the trees at the south of your island, leave the ones on the sides. that's what I did because every time I walked near the ones at the bottom the beetles would fly off fast D:

ok I took screen shots and timed it as well as got the exact amount I made in one trip.

I left one tree on the West side and one on the South...I run down the center grass then over to the left so as not to scare anything off...in this screen shot you can see the tips of each palm tree:

It took me 35 minutes total and I made 367,000 bells

Goliaths are worth 6K
Elephant, Atlas, Cyclommatus are all 8K
Golden and Hercules are 12K

I must also note that I caught 2 regular sharks, a hammerhead, 2 whale sharks and a napoleon fish as well. Those range from 8K - 10K

I generally scare off the goliaths or pocket them and replace them with golden stags...I know they are worth something but think of it this way...if you catch 5 goliaths at 6K that is 30K but 5 golden stags at 12K is 60K a difference of 30K I catch at least 6 or more goldens on one trip. I would rather scare goliaths off and make more...even 2k more from other beetles can still net you more bells.
I run around and scare off every other bug and catch any sharks I see as well as BIG shadows in the water...they usually end up being blue marlins or napoleonfish which are 10k a piece! Everyone has their own way but that is how I do it.

yes there is a rainbow beetle but you have to have a tree in the center to get one of those...mine didn't spawn them regularly but there was always fruit beetles spawning on there and finally I gave up and cut them all down...getting one rainbow stag a night wasn't worth it IMO but everyone plays different.
Do what works best for you in the long run...anything you cut down or dig up can be fixed by replanting using items from tours etc so nothing done cannot be undone!

Rainbow Stag I'm sure is 10k.

I have 4 palms and a fruit tree in the middle, I get tons of bells with this as others have said. I've cut the top 3 palms on each side and every other tree after that to leave 4. Each time I walk round the island and there are no bug s on any palms, I go back inside the hut to let them respawn.

I catch the goliath beetles, stags (except saw and miyama) and the horned beetles found on palms (not the horned dynastid, it's not worth much!). Prices that you get for these start at 8000 upwards!
