What's your favorite browser based game of all time?

Besides Club Penguin, the first example I could think of was the McDonald’s Video Game. As a kid I had no idea what was happening and all the paragraphs about how McDonald’s uses the tactics of manipulation and whatnot like an ordinary corporation does for profit flew past my head and I thought it was a normal game positively promoting McDonald’s(I may or may not have known it was unofficial, not sure). It didn’t help that the artstyle was cute and not unlike something you’d see in an actual McDonald’s flash game. Also, everything felt... uncanny. The title screen song, the cries of the employee whenever something was amiss, the sudden “DUN-DUN” sound effect and pop-up message when you did something to hurt the McDonald’s business, the business room with all the blabbering, the moans of the cows, the destruction of the rainforest, and, of course, the game over screen, featuring an angry Ronald McDonald. It was rather unnerving but it stuck in my mind, probably because of that.

A long time ago I did a playthrough of the game where my goal was to have McDonald’s survive one thousand years(the game starts at 2000 if I remember correctly), and I did it. There’s a screenshot of said accomplishment below. I can’t pinpoint the exact date of when I did this, but it seems to be late 2017.

And speaking of McDonald’s games, an honorable mention would be an OFFICIAL game from the Happy Meal website a decade ago. Does anyone remember Yummivore? The game was funny with the “CHOMP!” stock sound effect whenever you ate something and all the food flying everywhere, but I think the true centerpiece is the music video.

Anything off nitrome, these flash games have the quality of most indie games and a cute pixel aesthetic

Also clubpenguin cause swag

RuneScape! I played it so much when I was in middle school and high school. Nowadays I'll play OSRS on my iPad sometimes when I want to reminisce~

Neopets.... I haven't played recently but it was my go-to. Too bad Flash support is going away on a lot of internet browsers! I wonder how they're going to run.

Runescape.

Also there were a ton of flash games where you drop water balloons from a building or an overpass while people/cars went by and those were always hilarious to me as a kid.

I never really played browser games as a kid though I loved Webkinz. I don't play it nearly as much as I used to but even now I get on once in a while to check on my pets and do some fun stuff. and ofc I'm still a huge fan of stuffed animals to even to this day there are still some Webkinz that I would love to own.

Did anyone mention Happy Wheels? That game was definitely violent, but I use to get a kick out of it when I was a little younger 😂

It also helped that users made Pokemon and a Zelda level! The Pokemon one was especially hilarious.

I have very fond memories of both Neopets and Webkinz, although I’d have to say old-school webkinz (before all the webkinz deluxe crud took over) beats out Neopets by a smudge (Mazin’ Hamsters was awesome and I’d play any game similar to that a TON.)

Neopets, ToonTown, Hello Kitty Online, RuneScape, and played a lot of Diner Dash when it was first around. Never got into the large social network games like Habbo Hotel.

Oh! Does addictinggames.com count also? I liked Bloons, Bloxorz (or whatever) and The Classroom 3.

definitely Neopets, that game was my childhood and I love it so much, even if I only login to do my dailies these days.

Granblue Fantasy is also a gacha browser game that I'm currently addicted to, I just love the characters in that game so much Especially Lilly

I was obsessed with club penguin! I would play for hours while on the phone with my best friend. Always loved the Halloween event they had. :')

I'd say neopets too, but I didn't really know how to really play properly when I was younger. I revisited the site about 2-3 years ago maybe? I was surprised that pretty much nothing had change after 15+ years, except for some new location art. It was like visiting the Space Jam website; an internet relic in its own right! Anyway, I used jellyneo for help and eventually started making bank. I stopped playing again after about a year because I had gotten everything I wanted (things like dream pets/colors and finally getting the lab ray). It was a good trip down memory lane.

In the earlier days of Facebook, there was a Marvel Avengers game that you could play on there. It was called Avengers Alliance. I was obsessed with it. Even paid actual money for a few things. Then they released Avengers Alliance 2...which people didn't like in comparison to the first one. After everyone refused to play the new one and kept playing the original, they just pulled the plug on both and the game died. I'm still pretty mad about it, tbh. Lol.

I really liked Neopets and Webkinz. Neopets was by far my favorite though.

I loved Moshi Monsters, I always thought it was a really fun game and found the puzzles really enjoyable and quite good brain training (the game made me a pro at knowing flags from around the world), plus the Moshlings were so cute. I only played Club Penguin a couple of times but never really took to it and I've never tried Neopets but always thought they looked sweet.

Just searched Moshi Monsters as I was trying to remember what my favourite Moshling was and have sadly discovered that the web game is now defunct since 2019, haven't played it in years but its a shame to see it's no longer around 🥺 found my two favourite Moshlings though - Snookums the dino and Blurp the fish, so I'll just leave them here so others can admire their cuteness.

Webkinz and Animal Jam (and yeah i totally had rare spikes in animal jam) are both very nostalgic for me. They were excellent games. I also loved all the papa's freezeria/-eria games, my favorite being bakeria.

neopets! i spent so much of my time as a kid playing the games on that site, even if i wasn't really into the virtual pet aspect. my favorites were hannah and the pirate caves, faerie bubbles, kass basher, and toy box escape!
