I'm thinking of selling my 3DS and gaining my own money to buy a new 3DS.

It is the SUper Mario Edition as seen here.
The plate has a small chip
It has some scrapes (not so scraped that it is really noticable)
but still works perfectly.

How much would it be worth? (US Dollars)(Brand new is at $190)

The lowest price of that special edition 3DS XL alone on eBay is starting at $91 USD. Maximum price for a CiB (complete in box) without an NNID associated to would be around $180.

I'd say a price that is anywhere between $100 and $140 would be a good price, given the minor imperfections your 3DS XL has gotten so far.

Also, if you're in the U.S. which I'm assuming since you're asking for USD, GameStop has a deal that says if you bring in a used 3DS you can get $100 off a New 3DS. I see a bunch of commercials for it so hopefully it's still going on.

That ended on the 26th or at least in late June, so that promotion is long gone now. Not to mention the hoops you had to go through in order to perform a system transfer too.

Well, I guess they should stop advertising it on tv then :p

I think around 120$ would be reasonable for your system! Also US only got the new 3DS XL right?

Yep. I'm guessing it was because "People like bigger screens better then faceplates."

Kind of. The sales for the New Nintendo 3DS XL have ALWAYS sold higher than the New Nintendo 3DS in nearly every country that offers both models. Even the original Nintendo 3DS XL sold more than the Nintendo 3DS in a lot of places. NoA thought there wouldn't be a market for the smaller size, and they just happen to be wrong, if you look on forums and subreddits enough.

Not to mention the faceplates and storage issues with supply-and-demand. Stores have enough trouble stocking amiibo due to the lack of supply AND space in their stores. It would just be difficult for Nintendo to stock nearly five major retailers with hundreds of stores across Unted States
