What villager has grown on you?

Some of the starters I’ve had have been growing on me a lot, most recently plucky! I never cared about her before I had her as a starter on my current island.
Rowry is another case of villager I never thought I’d love, but he’s one of my favorites now! Had him on 2 of my islands as starter :D he was the first to sing on my very first island and I couldn’t help but love him!:)

On my first island, my first two villagers were Agnes and Louie, neither of which I'd met before, and they both grew on me quite quickly! Agnes is now my favourite villager. 🐷

On my second island, I just let the houses be filled randomly. Hippeaux moved into one of the homes, and he is a villager that slowly grew on me! I really enjoy having him on my island. 😊

Does a villager having grown on me in a previous game count? Because Flip became my fav jock villager after I always got him in my New Leaf towns.

Iggly! he was one of my starting villagers before I reset I hated his jock personality, but at the time I had no clue how to collect iron to build nooks cranny(I thought I had to destroy the rock) he game me 15 iron and I cherish him forever and love his personality now and am trying to get him on my new island

Coach was one I didn't like at first. I took him while I was on my last couple of NMTs because I needed a jock, but I was not excited to get him.

But, IDK, seeing his colorful self running around the island made me smile. I made up a story in my head that he was a retired sports coach, trying to take it easy, but he just couldn't help pumping up everyone around him because it was his calling, even in retirement. I kept him for a pretty long time and loved him while I had him. Sometimes I think about hunting him down and inviting him back.
Coach and Katt were my two starting villagers. I didn't like either one of their designs, but they both wound up growing on me. Coach stuck around for the first six months, and I actually invited him back for a bit at some point after that.

One that was a big surprise to have grow on me was Lyman. He was my best friend's son's villager, and apparently wound up getting put into my queue, because he was one of the random move ins I had. I actually missed him after he did leave, he really wasn't that bad of a koala after all.

for me it's probably Ursala. she highkey bullied me in Animal Crossing on the gamecube (like I know that snooty villagers can be rude, but she was absolutely ruthless lol) so I really didn't like her. but starting in NL she became a sisterly villager, and I think that personality matches her design much more. I wouldn't say she's one of my favourites but I definitely don't hate her now haha.

To be honest, I feel like most villagers I don't like as much grow on me when I have them on my island. But a good example would be Olaf. He was my first campsite villagers, and I was a bit disappointed that I got him at first, but now I love him, and he's a permanent resident of my island~

Gayle really grew on me. She’s so sweet. I felt horrible getting rid of her on my island, but she didn’t fit my theme at all. I’m just glad she went to a loving home!

Sherb comes to mind because I originally took him in with the intent of selling him for NMT's back in 2020 iirc, I honestly had no attachment to him. I believe I found him while island hopping and I was just looking for profit at the time if I couldn't find one of my dreamies. But he took so long to ask to move out that by the time he finally asked, he'd honestly really grown on me and I really like the interactions we had + how he interacted with my other villagers. I ended up asking him to stay and since then he's been a permanent villager.

It's definitely Moe. I initially thought his design was kinda ugly, but now he's my absolute favorite villager.

definitely Tabby for me. my first encounter with her was during my first time playing animal crossing on gamecube as a child. she scared me at first with her rough look. 😭 I thought she was supposed to look beaten up and not alive... lol. but I had her in New Leaf for a bit and now she's nostalgic for me! The villagers I had in my first gamecube town (unrelated but I had named it "dogville") now forever live in a special place in my heart. ❤️

For New Horizons specifically, Kidd. I nearly kicked him off my island a few years ago, for giving me fake art - but when I was about to invite the new character to my campsite for the third time, I realised I didn't really want him to go.

Also, Phoebe. I had planned to replace her with Rio at some point, but I've realised that I'm not ready to have her leave yet (and since she was one of my first villagers, I might never be). So I'm going to boot someone else out, instead.

Its gotta be Boone for me. At first when he moved into my City Folk town in 2021 I just saw him as another villager and didnt really care for him. But I honestly gotta respect him because as of 2025 hes still in my town and outstayed everyone else that was in my town at the time. I even brought him over to my new horizons island when I saw him on a villager hunt. Hes kinda like a forever friend to me. Its honestly gonna suck seeing him eventually depart from my city folk town.

I thought Lobo was going to be mean to everyone when he came to my island but he’s just a grandpa and I love that he’s become my favorite lol :)

Cyrano. He scared me when I was a kid, but then he somehow became one of my favorites. Because of him and Anabelle, I love the anteaters.

KEVIN!!! He was my starter on my first island and, originally, I found him a bit ugly. He's really grown on me, though, and now I look forward to seeing his funny face.

I really wanted to have Kyle on my New Horizons island, since he's been a dreamie of mine since the New Leaf days, but I have two Smug villagers: Jacques and Leopold. I expected to move Leopold out eventually, but he grew on me a lot and I feel like the island wouldn't be the same without him.

Also, I got rid of Colton because I had three smug villagers, but I was going to miss him more than I realize when he was moving out.

For me, that would be Curt. At first I wasn’t a huge fan of his design and personality, but I’ve grown to like him. Despite his tough exterior, he’s actually kind and caring. He just chooses not to show it. Him and Julia also seem to be romantically interested in each other. I’m glad I didn’t have Curt move out over a year ago.

Now for a villager I don’t have, another one would be Kyle. At first I thought he was meh. But I’ve grown to like him over this year. So much that he’s now my favorite wolf villager. I also find it cool that he’s the only male wolf currently active in the series that isn’t a cranky. Sure, Tarou is a jock and Wolf Link is a smug, but both of them aren’t in New Horizons. Kyle also reminds me of someone. Feel free to guess who it is. Originally, I put Kyle in B tier. But now he’s one of my dreamies.
Mine would be Hans. I didn’t really like him at first because he seemed very self involved and jocky. I like his catchphrase, groovy, because I use it all myself. He seems to be kind, and a little weird sometimes which is enjoyable.

In New Horizons, my best example would be Tybalt. He just seemed like a mediocre, basic tiger when he moved in unexpectedly in 2020. But he grew on me considerably, especially after I learned I shared a name with him in the French version of the game (Jeff). I even set my language to French to get a few screenshots with his Jeff name. 😆 He went from not being on my radar at all, to being probably my 2nd favorite tiger in the series, behind Rolf (although Bianca is up there too).

If we're talking about the whole series, my best example might be Gaston. I really disliked him and his oversized mustache, and I thought he looked out of place in Animal Crossing. But the big grouch grew on me, and now I like him a lot.
