So I've had ACNL for about two months now, and haven't had much opportunity to play and looking to find more time to definitely play and build my town.
But from some professional standpoints in this forum, what do you guys suggest or recommend that I focus on first?
I'm sure you guys would remember and laugh, but I usually end up spending my time in game trying to catch beetles and I'm throughly enjoying these fireworks and summer themed events going on.
Is there anything in particular during this event that I should take advantage of or check out?

Thanks in advance!

There's nothing wrong with catching beetles. I do that, too. But you can also buy Redd Cookies and cash in the prizes if you haven't already. Or get fireworks from Isabelle.

As for the Fireworks event, I'd say just trying to get all the different prizes from Redd's cookies is a way to enjoy it if you like to collect furniture. One of them is the Lovely Phone which is like having a permanent Katrina in your house :)

Although, outside of the event, I'd recommend thinking about if you want to have dreamies in your town and who they should be (dreamies means dream villagers). By doing this you can decide if you want your town to follow a theme (fairytale, zen, a food village, a winter village...) and a good starting point is trying to obtain said villagers. You can check out the Villager Trading Plaza in these forums and you'll certainly find cycling threads and people who sell villagers that may be on your dreamie list.

Of course, the game is yours, and Animal Crossing is designed to play it the way you want to and I, much like you and plenty other people, enjoy the little things of the game, such as catching beetles or walking around the beach on a rainy day listening to the cute sound the wet sand makes :)

Cut and replant trees where you see fit. It's good to have an idea of where everything should be :D
I wish that was one of the first things I did.

Agreed.

There's not much to do during the fireworks shows other than buying redd cookies or getting fireworks from Isabelle, but it's always nice to just focus on the little things about animal crossing, rather than all the big and somewhat stressful things

The nice thing about animal crossing is that you can do whatever you want, whenever you want :3 There are no real requirements, other than unlocking the island and opposite gender haircuts.

I would say earning money is a good way to start because that funds you buying items to decorate your house with, expanding your house and building pwps, but if you don't feel like grinding to earn tons of money just yet, you can try catching things and putting them in your museum, working towards getting your all 10 of your dreamies, landscaping your town, becoming better friends with your villagers, or making your own custom designs.
